Just after opinions regarding a couple of Dick Smith's Digitor CRO's.

Mainly the 60 Mhz dual trace (Cat: Q 1806) and the 20 Mhz dual trace (Cat
Q 1804) ones. In NZ they list a Q 1804 which is not on the Australian DSE
site. The Q 1804 is more similar in features to the Q 1806 then there
other 20 Mhz one Cat Q 1802).

My use for it is in a hobbist/tinkerer capacity.

My budget is about Aus$1200 about the price the Q 1806 - 60 Mhz one.

Is my money best spent somewhere else on something else?

Thanks,

Andrew McDonald

Hi Andrew,
I don't know much about the Digitor ones (they look ok), but if you have
$1200 to spend on a scope then you can do a lot better for your money.
Less than $1000 will get you a really nice top brand reconditioned
100MHz scope from MacService in Melbourne. $1200 might even get you a
150 or 200MHz one. You will never be sorry you went for the extra
bandwidth.
Try http://www.macservice.com.au
IMHO you either go for a cheap 20MHz scope and save your money, or you
go all out and get one in the 100MHz region, $1200 is expensive for
60MHz.

Regards
Dave :)

Before buying any Digitor gear, find some way to take
a look inside. About then you will notice why they are
relatively cheap !!!!

Hey there,
I work at DSE in Tamworth NSW, and I prety much agree with the other
guys here. Spend your money elsewhere man! The Digitor brand is our
(Dickies) own brand imported from china I think. They realy are CRAP!!!!!!
Go for a well known name brand, or maybe even the Jaycar item, as most of
their stuff is prety 'Top Notch',
C'Ya¿?¿?¿?Blade¿?¿?¿?
PS. Dont tell anyone I said this, I could get fired!!!!!

What Mr Proctor fails to realise is that Digitor is just a name, not a
manufacturer. Some products marketed under the same name aren't even made in
the same country let alone the same company.

Unlike him, I HAVE actually used these products and have had over 13 years
experience in the business. I also know many technicians who use these CROs.
If you want some feedback I can put you in touch with them. Unfortunately I am
not at liberty to make a recommendation in an official capacity, but from my
use own use of them all the current models are quite reliable.

Yes, Digitor is just a name, and it symbolises DSE's attempts to have
a real cheap line of goods to sell. The quality is appropriate. You
get what you pay for.
