Hi!
I'm studying for a MEd in Human Resource Studies and
in this 1st semester we're looking at various constructions of education.
For example we've studied the following constructions: liberalism & education,
marxism & education, critical theory & education, existentialism & humanistic
education, neo-conservatism & education, economic rationalism & education,
post-modernism &education, feminism & education.
My major paper has to do the following:
Select an issue from an area I have a professional interest in (I'm a teacher,
so it will be an educational area), and subject that problem to a constructions-
type analysis. Using insights from the subject I will have to justify and analyse my
topic in terms of at least 1 construction and then critique it in terms of one or more
other constructions. The paper should be written under the following 4 major headings:
part A: outline of the issue, part B: outline of the construction, part C: the analysis,
part D: the conclusion.

The issue I have decided to write on is the convergence of education and technology.
I intend justifying it in terms of a liberal construction and critiquing it in terms of of neo-
conservatism.

I would appreciate any ideas or help you might be able to give. I already have a long reading
list but if anyone has any suggestions of other books/ readings I would appreciate
them also.

Many thanks
Ingrid Kennedy

I suggest you read Clifford Stoll's book "Silicon Snake Oil"

It includes a good serve of a somewhat sarcastic but critical look at
the IT in technology.

Cheers
