(CNSNews.com) - On Tuesday, the Catholic League for Religious
and Civil Rights said in a press release that audits of the
Catholic Church have consistently found that nearly 8 in 10
victims of sexual abuse by clergy were male and 85 percent of
these male victims were post-pubescent, which is usually age 14-
16 but can go as high as age 18.

“This report, as well as all previous reports, fails to draw the
obvious conclusion: The sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church
has been driven largely by homosexuals,” said the Catholic
League, in reference to the new 2016 Annual Report Findings and
Recommendations, Charter for the Protection of Children and
Young People, released in May 2017.

The report is an annual audit of clergy sexual abuse in the
Catholic Church.

In a telephone interview, CNSNews.com asked Dr. Bill Donahue,
president of the Catholic League, why this result was not being
emphasized by U.S. bishops or the media.

“They’ve been intimidated by the dominant culture,” said
Donahue. “They know there’s a serious problem there [with
homosexual clergy]… it’s not good politics.”

“There’s nothing in social science literature that says you’re
likely to be a predator, if you’re homosexual,” said Donohue.
“But most have been homosexuals. There’s a problem.”

In addition, “the latest audit of the Catholic clergy involved
in the sexual abuse of minors shows that there were two new
substantiated cases made during the period of July 1, 2015
through June 30, 2016 against 52,238 priests and deacons,” the
press release stated.

“That comes to .004 percent of the clergy,” said the Catholic
League.

The latest audit, covering a year-long period, found that 25 new
allegations had been made, two of which were substantiated and
eight that are currently being investigated.

The press released concluded by noting that the most recent
report “mentions that 16 priests or deacons were returned to
ministry over the year the audit was conducted. We need to know
more about them ... most important, how are these maligned
priests doing now that they have been returned to ministry?”

“These questions are never asked, never mind answered,” said the
Catholic League. “True victims of sexual abuse deserve our
compassion and aid, but so do priests and deacons who have had
their reputations damaged, if not ruined, by false claims.”
