Can any recommend a printer?

Round $500.
Preferably economical. i.e. don't have to change the expensive
catridges every 30 pages.

Actually I would recommend Epson. Bloody good printers but of course if you
buy a cheaper version and want it to do more than it is capable of, it isn't
so good for you. The other thing is that Epson printers prefer to be worked
hard and dont like to sit around days on end doing nothing. Turn them on a
time or two a day, maybe send them through a head clean and they are quite
happy to work fine for years so long as you use Epson ink cartridges only.

Regards, Greg.

I was told that epson ink cartridges ar a shit to refill cause they work on
pressure not het to spit the ink onto the page, therefor if you get air
bubbles in the ink it stuffes up. Canon and HP are better for refills. As
far as print qualtiy goes i could not comment.

I've been using an Epson Stylus Color 600 for about 4 years now and I
find it a terrific product! I also have to admit (shamefacedly!) that
I have been a bit rough with it at times and still it comes up
smiling.

I've given up using the Epson cartridges - can't afford them and now
use either Pelikan or Calidad. Pelikan are better but Calidad are
cheaper!

Maybe you've been unlucky.

No affiliation with Epson!

My Epson has been pretty good, BUT the cartridges ARE booldy expensive, I
found this place from an Ad in the Trading post.....Black $8 Colour $12
for mine
http://aumarket.com/c_price.htm

I was a bit woried as they were so cheap, This guy is the importer and its
his house, but on the packet it says his name and address as the importer,
seems well packaged and works, They also have Cannon ones too

You were told wrong, then. Tried Calidad cartdridges and had to put the
printer in for repair thereafter. Always used Epson ones only, since and
never a problem because I always remember to buy them from somewhere where
the cartridges move quickly. Dont ever buy from a slow moving outlet. Oh and
strangely, my local K-Mart is cheaper than anywhere else and they move
really fast there. Might be the same for you whatever printer you have.

Epsons print great and are very reliable. Their inkjets are fine.

Do you need colour?

The Xerox P8ex is small, cheap, has USB, works like a charm. And can be
bought for under $400 I think. Not many places stock them, looks like the
Canon LPB800 only smaller/better lookin :)

Harvey Norman stocks them (sells for a ripoff). Try

I have an Epson usb 760 and I never use
Epson ink: way overpriced. I use ink cartridges
from New Reality (www.newreality.com.au)
They've always worked fine for me and are about
half the price of Epson cartridges. I always do a
head wipe every week and keep the interior
clean as well. Love those Epson printers!

Epson inks contain lubricants, that's why refills stuff up the print heads.
Epsons work off a piezo system rather than a heat system. And they have
FINALLY started using seperate colour ink tanks! The C70 is looking like a
good printer.
I have a Stylus 900 here, and I agree, it does need to be used regularly or the
ink clogs up the heads and needs a head clean cycle a few times.

Errr so I dont misunderstand, what do YOU mean when you say they are FINALLY
using separate colour in ink tanks? My colour 600 admittedly only has a
black cartridge and a 3 tank colour cartridge but all are separate tanks
with individual colours in them.

That wasn't what he said. He said the Epson ink cartridges do that meaning
as opposed to Calidad ones for example.

Means if you run out of Cyan you can buy a Cyan cartridge instead of replacing
the combined Cyan/Yellow/Magenta cartridge.
