Win XP audio drivers corrupted

Bad Directsound driver 88780078 error.
I have visted numerous sites including Reg cure to download new drivers
But they dont work
I even tried a system restore but XP keeps coming back saying "cannot
restore to this date, try another date"
Where am I going wrong.
All suggestions appreciated.

The beauty about system restore is that it also backs up viruses as
well. At some future time the virus detector detects a virus in the
system restore database and trashes it, rendering the entire system
restore useless for that date onwards. This is main reason I don't use
this feature, It only works on a working machine. Nice Idea, but in
reality it's about as useful as tits on bull.
All you can do is try an earlier date or re-install the sound system or
even repair DirectX (good luck with that one, it's Microsnots)
There's one other repair, at a command prompt type sfc /scannow,
if it's a OEM version (more than likely, good luck with that as well)

Why are you even using Real Player????
Download Real Alternative. Much lighter, much safer.
And don't think you'll get rid of RP and all its nasty little
components and addons just simply by uninstalling it ....

It's not a bad player, but it's full of spyware, ads, and popups.
Even the paid version is full of ads, and your email is sold
to anyone who uses them as a service. You are far worse off
if you buy it.

Unfortunately that doesnt work either. Looks like driver is corrupted.
If I cant find a copy of that driver, Its off to the PC repair shop for me.

Dont know, I dont have a technical manual for this PC. MIght need to
find some freewaare that will scan my hardware configuration
