Hi,
Just re-installing OS/2 ver 3 from floppies.
The configuration of the computer is exactly
the same as before, except that the C: drive (540Mb)
that died has been replaced by an 840Mb unit.
Get as far as disc 1, when it says that there's not enough
space on C: (there's 340Mb), and says to do a custom install.
Which I did.
Both attempts at a custom install failed at Disc 1
with failure on FDISK command.
Any suggestions?
TIA.

You need a later disk driver. Download the IDEDASD package (numerous
sources) and update the install floppies.

Its been a decade since I played with W3. Will Daniela's driver work
with Warp3? I see no mention of a minimum required level ofOS/2 for
it in danis506.doc file. If the original poster wants to try it, the
latest danis506.add can be found on hobbes -
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/drivers/storage/danis506r177.zip

As to idedasd, Oliver Rick's site
http://www.warpupdates.mynetcologne.de shows the last free version as
http://service.software.ibm.com/os2dd/free/idedasd.exe

Thanks for that note.
However, the original install went OK, using the same DOS.

Yes but there's a bug in the IDE driver at Warp 3 levelt hat restricts it to
disks < 512MB and you now have hit that bug. Update the driver or replace it
with danis506.add instead.

Yes, but the 540MB point is significant. Bigger disks need the new
driver.

Here is a site that talks about the various Drive Limits:

It would be nice if the site would give General Dates, so you could
estimate what limitations your Hard Disk drive might have.
