Hi to anyone who (like me) keeps this dormant group on their list ...

I have three Macs networked, and recently an odd item has appeared in
the "shared" area of the Finder sidebar where the various 'other'
machines on the network show up when they're active.

It has a "PC" icon, but no Info, won't connect to anything, and can't
be got rid of.

I'm assuing it's not DANGEROUS but it's most annoying.

Any comments?

I looked for a folder of 'recent servers' or something, but can't find
it. I'm running 10.5.8, by the way, on a G4 and G5, plus an Intel
Macbook running 10.6.7.

I'm running Little Snitch on all machines, so I ought to be aware of
illicit activity.

It is probably a PC on your network, or some sort of storage device. The
PC might be a real PC or a virtual Windows system in one of your Macs.

Are you using wifi? Might be time to change the password in case someone
has tapped into your network and is using up your bandwidth. Or worse....

I've just purchased a Macbook Air. So, for me, it's a new experience,
having owned C-64, DOS and Windows based computers.

I have a problem where my MBA can't see any network resources on the
LAN such as Win7 PCs, a network printer, a NAS. It, however, can access
the internet (I'm typing this in Unison, a Usenet client for Macs that
I'm trialling).

It turned out to be the printer, LOL. Oddly enough sometimes it pops up
as a network item, sometimes not. Maybe it gets bored?

Marts, do you have File Sharing permitted? I've only run multiple Macs
on my network, so can't comment on Win matters, sorry.

Hi Theo.

Yes, file and printer sharing is enabled on all PCs. However, the main
problem at the moment is the inability to see my Canon MX850 network
printer on the network, despite me installing the Mac drivers for it.

Still, I shall persist.
