I have an Intel Imac with core 2 1.83 Ghz, 160 GB HD,
and 512 MB RAM.
Sometimes it won't switch on and when it does it could
turn off at any time.
When it is running it works perfectly, no glitches.
It appears to be temperature related in that it will only
come on if the room is cold.
Also iStat Pro shows the GPU temperature rising rapidly.
The last time I powered up the iMac I watched the GPU
rise from 27 degrees to 48 degrees in a few minutes
with the computer doing nothing. Soon after it switched
off.
Thanks.

1. Your signature makes perfect sense

2. WIth regret Apple make make well designed gear but do not make
comsumer durables. Especially a poorly ventilated iMac. Probably time to
retire the beast. I have a similar one in the shed with about 50
coloured verticle lines on the display but works alight with an external
screen. Accordinhgly it doesn't get used anymore, neither does the 20"
iMAc or the Powerbook ....

3. This ng is rather moribund: suggest you pose your question on

I usually post on aus.religion.christian.

I thought that might be the case but I still have hope.

You are not kidding! Maybe one post every few months.
Thanks for the whirlpool reference. I'll try that.

If you are going to try newsgroups, then try the main hierarchy such
as comp.sys.mac.system. These are more active, though below what they
once were.

Barry could also try uk.comp.sys.mac
Quite active and helpful.
