Running Mac OS X 10.1.4 on an iMac 600 the Mac OS X Application
QuickTime Player 5.0.2 cannot be launched anymore, the startup is always
cancelled with the indication "... QuickTime Player did quit
unexpectedly ... system and other applications are not affected."

Sometimes QT Player does well launch, but will quit unexpectedly as soon
as via QT Player menu the preferences are called or a movie is opened.

Deleting ~/Library/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences did not help.

Under a different user ("guest" or "root") the same QT Player works
fine!

QuickTime itself seems to be o.k., pictures and MPEG files run faultless
under Finder and other applications.

I called the Console and Crash Reporter (having no experience with this
stuff), they report:

a) Console.log:
*** malloc[278]: Deallocation of a pointer not malloced: 0xffffffff;
This could be a double free(), or free() called with the middle of an
allocated block; Try setting environment variable MallocHelp to see

Is there anybody in the world who can help me?

Since I upgraded my system to version 10.1.5 this bug has disappeared -
luckily. However, I am always a little bit disapointed when a bug could
not be traced to its cause. So it may happen again and one is starting
again at zero.
