Depends upon how much of the "screen" you remove, but usually yes.
I had to fix a toshiba 1850 which had been dropped. Mate, quite a few of
the modules inside were pushed sideways, such that their
interconnections physically "jumped" one or two positions sideways. Good
fun.

I removed the whole screen ,unplugged it from the motherboard.

I've had to do a little panel beating to this one too ,can't see any
cracks in the motherboard.
Pity it needs the LCD to work ,as I'd like to see if the rest of the
thing goes ,so as to see if it's worth getting a new panel for.
How universal are LCD displays? ,the one in this machine is made by
Sharp.
Alecto.
Well if your lucky, you may be able to remove the "display adapter" from
the notebook. That is, some (earlier) notebooks had the display adapter
as a piggyback type module. If the "display adapter" is VGA or EGA, then
without the adapter/BIOS, it should think that it's configured for "No
Display".
I would try checking out some Laptop groups like comp.sys.laptops.
Have fun.

"slightly run over" - hmm I wonder what is causing it not to work,
tricky.
have you had a look inside to see what sort of state the HDD etc are in?
chances are something has been wrecked inside or knocked out of place.
As far as i know it should still boot without a working LCD screen. I
assume you have plugged it in correctly to the VGA monitor and that your
cable is ok. maybe check these because if you can't see anything you
don't know what it is (or isn't) doing.

Yep ,I've had the main board out ,the HD & floppy drives are ok ,the
CDrom was a tad squashed ,but I've done a nice panel beating job on it
since ,the rear frame needed a touch of panel beating too ,seems that
only the right hand side was run over.

Yeah ,it's a bit hard to plug a POST card into.
