I have looked at Hotmail's internet sight at HTTP://WWW.HOTMAIL.COM. The
sight is actually a free mailing sight where people can access their email
with a name and password using a web page browser. A friend is on the
hotmail's email sight, and I have been told that no information is needed
other than a login name and password. People can create a free hotmail
account by just typing a login name, a password and an internet address.

I hope this information will be of use to you.

It would be great if you would explain _how_ to track down their real
address, so the rest of us "concerned users" can do our own tracing.

Would you mind doing this?

The ISP and mail provider of the indvidual calling themselves mini_mouse
were asked to investigate their client. This person was cautioned by different
people on numerous occasions. If others also complain then we
can make a difference. Most, but not all, ISP's are concerned at
the level of spam - and will act if a number of people complain
& include some evidence for their complaint.

The important thing to remember is "don't just be a bystander."
If you hate spam then do something about it.

All the data obtained about this spammer was located
using a number of search engines/methods - including
plain 'ole http://www.altavista.digital.com

The attempt to hide behind a front name/address
should not protect them. I am waiting for a reply
from the ISP's concerned.

The email was sent as follows:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To:he...@pacific.net.sg,ad...@pacific.net.sg
To:ab...@hotmail.com

To whom it may concern,

The following person calling themselves "mini_mouse"
has been using the address: ntwin@hotmail
from the ISP: pacific.net.sg (Pacific Surf)

to advertise (spam) in a number of groups where such advertising
is not accepted. We also have believe that they are using your site
to sell pirated software.

On behalf of the newsgroups affected, I request that you
investigate this matter and take appropriate action against
this person as soon as possible.

Please find below some examples.

I await your reply with interest,
Yours Sincerely,

Mitch.
Please remove the *no spam* from my address to reply.

I'm sorry Andrew, but I don't get the connection between setting up an
email address with Hotmail, and tracking down the source address of a
spammer (which is the topic of this particular thread). Have I missed
something here?
