Guys,
Looking for some advice. I need to buy a new monitor and am
considering the Hitachi 19" CM721 which is supposed to be "flat"
according to the website and can be purchased for $740 at Umart.
On the other hand, you can buy a Sony 19" flat trinitron CPD-G420
for $1149.

So basically, what I'm asking comes down to whether the Hitachi is a
good buy and brand for that matter, or should I lash out and get the
Sony?

Your advice is much appreciated.

I think both brands have a good reputation.

Don't know about the CM721 but I have a CM771 (flat) 19" on the better halfs PC, sitting alongside my CM813 plus 21",
and hers looks better than mine although both the Hitachi,s are excellent. The Sony monitors are good, but overpriced.
IMHO

I am reading your message on the CM721F, and I am very happy with it. Images
are very crisp, and the colours are vibrant. Probably one of the best buys I
have made for my computer. I would go with the Hitachi, as I feel it is a
better buy for the price.
Just my 2c

We use 19" for cartography, and I would go with the Hitachi. There is no
way the Sony is worth that sort of extra cash. Actually, I would not pay
any more for the Sony than the Hitachi. We have never had a Hitachi fail.
The Diamond View (Mitsubishi) are also excellent. Never had one of them
fail either. I do not mind working on either one.

My hitachi video recorder is a POS. I'll never buy another Hitachi.

My mum's sony walkman was malfunctioning and they kept sending it back
from warranty repair still broken. I avoid Sony now.

We have two 17" Mitsubishi Diamondtrons, and both of them are complete
garbage. The 'twitching' problem is, as you say, endemic to the brand.
Unfortunately both of ours waited until just after they were out of
warranty to expire.

We are going to shell out the extra for Sony G220s to replace the
Mitsubishis. I have a beautiful 21" Sun-branded Trinitron on our SGI,
and although it's ancient it's still going strong.

Great buy for $695, but unfortunately $60 to ship to Brisbane. I can
get it for $740 here in Brisbane.

Oh well.....that's life.

if only that was the price of the monitor.

**I am well aware of that. Restricting one's choice to two monitors, only,
is stupid. Not considering the Mitsubishi is stupid.

**Fair enough, You're entitled to your opinion. The Mitsu is
indistiguishable from the Sony. Both are superior to the Hitachi. For MY
eyes, that is. Others may have other ideas. For the record, I asked about
reliability (from a bunch of monitor repair guys) before I purchased my
Mitsu. The Mitsubishi, the Sony and the Hitachi are all highly regarded, by
users and repairers, alike. Compared to my last monitor (an Optiquest) the
Mitsu is an absolute dream. It is flat, flat, flat, bright, bright, bright
and provides excellent linearity. It has proven itself to be 100% reliable.
I'll let you know in a couple of years, as that is when monitors start to
fall over.

What about the 1998E ?

Guess that might not prove that much since with 3 year warrantys,
most would be using the Mitsubishi authorised repairers who may
not have much if any experience with those other brands etc.

Yeah, no regrets with mine. The only glitch is that its too heavy for
one person to deliver legally in NSW, that caused a few problems.

Main problem with mine is that I hate the old 15" on the test machine
and it likely wont be long before I cant stand it any longer and get
another for it too. Might try their non pro model for that, the 1998E
Tad hard to justify another $1Kish monitor for the test machine.

Likely I'm just being silly tho, $1K is peanuts for something I use all the time.

How do they go up there when delivering fridges, washing machines and
the like?

In theory use more than one person. In practice they just carry on
regardless using the usual trolley systems they have always used.

Its just the usual labor party utterly mindless silly stuff.
