So basically, what I'm asking comes down to whether the Hitachi is a
good buy and brand for that matter, or should I lash out and get the
Sony?
Your advice is much appreciated.

My mum's sony walkman was malfunctioning and they kept sending it back
from warranty repair still broken. I avoid Sony now.

We have two 17" Mitsubishi Diamondtrons, and both of them are complete
garbage. The 'twitching' problem is, as you say, endemic to the brand.
Unfortunately both of ours waited until just after they were out of
warranty to expire.
We are going to shell out the extra for Sony G220s to replace the
Mitsubishis. I have a beautiful 21" Sun-branded Trinitron on our SGI,
and although it's ancient it's still going strong.

if only that was the price of the monitor.
Cheers,
Derek
Mitsubishi is complete and utter crap. My 17" has been back for warranty
repairs 7 times!!!!!
**I am well aware of that. Restricting one's choice to two monitors, only,
is stupid. Not considering the Mitsubishi is stupid.

**Fair enough, You're entitled to your opinion. The Mitsu is
indistiguishable from the Sony. Both are superior to the Hitachi. For MY
eyes, that is. Others may have other ideas. For the record, I asked about
reliability (from a bunch of monitor repair guys) before I purchased my
Mitsu. The Mitsubishi, the Sony and the Hitachi are all highly regarded, by
users and repairers, alike. Compared to my last monitor (an Optiquest) the
Mitsu is an absolute dream. It is flat, flat, flat, bright, bright, bright
and provides excellent linearity. It has proven itself to be 100% reliable.
I'll let you know in a couple of years, as that is when monitors start to
fall over.

What about the 1998E ?

Guess that might not prove that much since with 3 year warrantys,
most would be using the Mitsubishi authorised repairers who may
not have much if any experience with those other brands etc.

Yeah, no regrets with mine. The only glitch is that its too heavy for
one person to deliver legally in NSW, that caused a few problems.
Main problem with mine is that I hate the old 15" on the test machine
and it likely wont be long before I cant stand it any longer and get
another for it too. Might try their non pro model for that, the 1998E
Tad hard to justify another $1Kish monitor for the test machine.
Likely I'm just being silly tho, $1K is peanuts for something I use all the time.

How do they go up there when delivering fridges, washing machines and
the like?

In theory use more than one person. In practice they just carry on
regardless using the usual trolley systems they have always used.
Its just the usual labor party utterly mindless silly stuff.
