It's not technically true. There is no real need for them to do anything at
the exchange. There is no difference between a business line and a
residential line apart from the billing.

If they have screwed up their internal processes the system may need to do a
disconnect/reconnect to get it swapped over but, if so, that's purely a
result of their bungling the system and not a physical requirement of the
exchange equipment.

Its complete and utter pig ignorant drivel unless
you have something fancy on that business line.

Call again and get a monkey with a clue.

They have to know. They own the cable it uses.

It's more than likely (but by no means definitely) Telstra ADSL resold by
someone else.

Not clear if you mean telstra adsl resold or
someone else's physical dslam in the exchange.

> Would that make a difference?

Still shouldnt, even if its adsl using a non telstra dslam.

I meant some of the more exotic business voice services
that are essentially a pabx done back in the exchange.

Nope, not quite - can the business line, do a COL to res - shouldn't need a
lines appointment though - that's a little odd.

Sounds more like a SULIE (disassociate phone number from LI) followed by a
SULII (reassociate with LI)- Not sure what the equivalent System 12
commands are....

> That shouldnt happen with a remote config change.

Both of the above AXE commands are issued remotely. Used to be done by
Autocat if an O and I order was issued for the same number, and resulted in
the line being down for between 5 mins and a couple of hours.

It's very rare for an exchange visit to be necessary for any PSTN work now.
Nearly all main cable pairs are permanently jumpered to an LI/EN.

Which is done remotely in 99.9 percent of cases. 100% for the type of work
she is talking about.

Well you can - but it isn't acceptable as it leaves a residential account on
a business CIDN - you still see 'em from time to time where someone has been
lazy & done it that way. Not acceptable procedure & will land the person
doing it a dirty ticket of work if they're caught out doing it. Creates
problems later on if the person gets a new line connected on the same
account as it'll automatically go thru as a business line rather than a
residential one.

Lance

If the monkey putting the order in fucks it up you end up with 2 orders.
One for a disconnection and one for a reconnection. They are processed

No "fuck up" at all - that's the way a COL from ELB to ELN is done.
