hey again , have any of you got any in-depth info technical or whatever
on any of these ?

SCANTS, SCORESBY, BROADWAY, LEOPARD, RASS-M, MOSAIC, R2, MFC, PADDINGTON,
NETWORK OPERATIONS, TRANSMISSION CONTROL CENTRE, RIM TMG, PMG, PMC,
CUSTOMER ACTIVATION ASSURANCE, START

the only thing i know about most of these terms is that they are Telstra
internal structures or systems, or globally accepted standards.

Strange set I questions.

While since I left Telstra but:

Scorsby, Broadwayand Paddington are International Gateway exchanges or
EarthStations. They are actual sites.

R2 stands for ITU standard of signalling. Mostly we use R2D in Oz
which means version 2 digital. Telstra's version is often called T6.
There is also a variation called P3 used for Siteline digital indial
and outdial services between the exchangeand a PABX.

MFC: multi frquency compelled sequence signalling scheme. There are
lots of variations, but very widley used byTelstra with its last range
of electromechanical ARE-11 and ARF exchanges. Also was used on the
early digital AXE exchanges. Largely replaced in the digital world by
Common Channel Signalling No 7 scheme. MFC is still used between some
exchanges and PABXs.

LEOPARD and RASS areTelstra internal fault and service systems. RASS
stodd for Recording of Special Services.

RIM stands for Remote Integrated Multiplexer:refers to a
digitalmux/fibre system Telstra purchases from Alactel. RIM can bean
interface between copper wires and digital fibre network. RIM usually
holds interfaces for 120-480 normal exchange lines. After the RIM the
service is carried back to the exchanges over 8Mb/s or34Mb/s fibre
system.

PMG: you should know what that means.

Hope this helps. There are literally 1000's of such terms used in
the Telecom world.

RIM can be located in a suburban area in a special outdoor enclosure
or in old country exchnages units.

RASS is now defunct, and all Special Services have been transferred
over to Service Plus (S*P). Service Plus holds information on Telstra
maintained Commander Systems and PABXs.

Also, LEOPARD has been replaced by CORAL (IIRC).

Analogue mobiles are handled by RACE (Optus use TOSS), GSM handled by
MICA (Mobiles Integrated Customer Accounts). Complaints by Cicero.
Billing by Flexcab. Order entry by AXIS. Remote testing with Sultan.
Then there's AOM, DCRIS, START, MOSS (Mobiles Operations Support
System). The list goes on ad infinitum (or ad nauseum ;-)

PMG would be PostMaster General ... what Telstra used to be, ages ago.

Nick.
