When an Optus customer travels abroad they can make use of the "Call
Home Australia" part of the Optus calling card. This is available from
35 countries.

This will allow you to connect, at Optus' expense, to customer service
for long distance or mobile inquiries.

Of course where Optus does not have a calling card arrangement the
traveller will need to phone Optus at their expense on +61293425678.

Can someone please tell me what the other carriers offer global
roamers in the way of getting in touch with Australian mobile customer
service. Is it that they have to pay for the call back to Australia in
every case? I think so. Heck, Vodofone makes you dial a mobile number
here in Australia and the premium 123 service from your handset for
service.

I found the above feature to be very useful whilst I back-packed
around Europe for six months of last year.

Telstra offers the same service with its Telecard and also has a prepaid
version called Phoneaway (??) other international carries like Global One
etc offer similar services. You can roam to many countries with Optus
mobile as well (and to call Optus in Australia will be a mobile call so
Vodafone aren't ripping any one off).
