I know it is slow, but is MS Office better on the same hardware?
I don't think so, Windows 10 needs an SSD to be fast, Windows on
older HDDs is very slow compared to Debian.

I run LibreOffice on a Pentium 4, Windows 11 can't even run on that
machine.

I sold all my old stuff ages ago. Now I use NUC computers with SSDs

office. Never looked back.

Yeah, I avoid it in preference for other open-source office
software for most tasks. But it is the only thing that opens M$
Office document formats when people are rude enough to send them to
me, so unfortunately it stays.

I use Apple NUC equivalents - Mac Minis. I use Libre Office and Pages
(Apple). No real issues with either of them in working with M$ documents
with the exception of the odd missing font here and there - and that is
easily addressed. My reason for using Libre Office - it is cross
platform so I can work with equal ease on Windows, Mac or Linux.

Nothing astonishes Noddy so much as common sense and plain dealing.

I also use LibreOffice because I run Ubuntu and Debian (I hate Windows
10/11). Many MS Office documents create problems, e.g. word documents
with styling, PPT with animation.

That goes with the M$ territory.

That's why I try to avoid that whenever possible.

Ditto. Only use Windows on one machine and only fire that up when I need
to archive my email.

I use my windows machine every day for everything other than compiling
Raspi Pico code. I do that on Ubuntu, same machine using WSL2, it runs
GCC like a rocketship. Other than that there is a RasPi 3 running an
MQTT server and and a RasPi ZeroW which monitors my solar inverter, and
that runs C# code so M$ everywhere and apart from one recent hiccup no
problems.
