Slightly O/T: iPhone app deletion then update nags ....

Downloaded an app from the AppStore (it had decent reviews) but found
it to be a steaming pile, so I deleted it. Now the AppStore icon nag
reveals that there is an update waiting. Obviously the mothership
doesn't know I've pissed off the app.
So is there any way to avoid the nuisance effect of ongoing update
availability reminders for deleted apps?
