SMS plans designed for young Australians

5 June, 2002

Telstra's youth brand for the under-25s market, communic8, today
launched new mobile phone plans tailored to the text message habits
and budget restrictions of younger Australians.

communic8's Marketing Manager, Mr Mario Garrido said the new
communic8 SMS Plans offer discounted and some free SMS messaging to
younger and budget conscious mobile customers.

"The communic8 SMS Plans are available to customers on a subscriber or
casual basis. They offer a rate of 15 cents for each SMS message sent
to over 5 million communic8 or Telstra Mobile customers, and 18 cents
for each SMS message sent to any other network on SMS Plans $20 and
above," Mr Garrido said.

The Subscriber SMS Plans also offer FREETXT, which allows customers to
send free SMS messages to communic8 and Telstra mobiles between 9pm
and 5am#.

"communic8 customers users are increasingly using SMS messaging to
carry out short conversations and organise their social lives," Mr
Garrido said.

"Our research shows that approximately 80 per cent of communic8
customers send SMS messages," Mr Garrido said.

According to international research, Australians under 25 years of age
send an average of 75 million SMS text messages a month*. This equates
to an average of approximately 2.5 million messages a day.

"If your children are always using SMS to let you know where they are
or to organise social plans with their friends, and make the
occasional voice call, then communic8 SMS Plans are the way to go," Mr
Garrido said.

"Or if customers prefer to talk rather than SMS, communic8 Subscriber
Call Plans can be tailored to suit calling habits. Simply choose
whether you tend to make your call during the day, night or weekend
and choose the Call Plan Bonus Option Pack that suits your needs. "

To coincide with the launch of the new communic8 SMS Plans, communic8
is sponsoring the Sony Ericsson Text Messaging Championships later
this year. The championship is searching for the fastest text
messenger in Australia.

Customers wanting more information about the new communic8 SMS Plans
should visit their local Telstra Mobile outlets, go online to
www.communic8.com.au or phone 125 8880.

I would probably switch to one of these plans if there was no minimum
monthly spend level as I use only $5 on SMS.

WTF? I am not wasting $60 a year on a mobile phone that I use for emergency
/ SMS. I would much prefer to spend it on something worthwhile like a new
phone, etc.

You are a tightass, and a moron

You spend $5 per month, yet you would rather buy a new phone?
What kind of wanker on a $5 spend needs a new phone?
Simply a posing wanker, I think
