Hi,
I have a mazda 2.0i FE engine which dose not seem to run
right, seriously underpowered and fails to start without a roll.
Timing is spot on valve clearence spoton all leads good new coil etc.
managed to gather the settings online from
http://www.sehlin.com/bildata/mazda/mazda21.htm#626, 2.0i ,, 1998 cc,
1986-87, , Engine Code FE-EGI

As the engine is injected I am looking now at the fuel system.
Is there any easy way to test the auto electrics of this cars such as
sensors etc.
could it be a faulty sensor?

Mazda mechanics?????

TIA

Could be a lot of things, fuel pressure, valve timing (and timing in
general), low compression. Sensors possibly crank angle sensor, air flow
meter, MAP sensor, ignition module and computer itself, whatever is
applicable.
You would start diagnosing the same as you would any other car... does it
have a healthy spark and pulse on crank, does it have an injector pulse and
is the fuel pressure up to scratch.

My advice, if you can't diagnose this basic boatanchor engine and it's
antiquated injection system you should take it to someone who can.

Sounds a bit like the instruction in some car manuals especially
gearboxes,This bit of car is beyond you take it to a specialist.
Specialists only become specialists after they gain information.

Checked valave timeing spark timing etc.,its at the local mechanic
shop now as I cannot get it to go at all after doing 300km.
was going to drive it right to mazda 100km away but she wont go now
even with a roll start.

checked compression fuel pressure etc but mechanic can't get it to go.
The engine sounded like it was seriously retarded before it stopped,
A guy from Wynes said could be the air flow metter or crank angle
sensor
from presonal experience.

Local mechanic recons it should still go even if senors are faulty.

I have no reason to doubt him,...buuuut, the crank-angle sensor being out to
lunch, could surely stop the engine.

Thanks Jason
I know little about ECU powered cars however tslked to the mechanic
again, the boss had a go a still can't get it to go nor can offer
advise as to its problem,he did note it has the wrong coil fitted, but
said it still should run.

It dose start once in a day and run very slowly as if it cant get
above 1000rpm at full throttle.
then it won't run again.

I may put it on a trailer and take it to mazda after replacing the
coil wit the correct one,so Mazda don't moan about it and refuse to
fix it based on that.
Starter moter is shot and did not really want to take it to Mazda like
that as they will want it fixed..lol.
Mechanic asked me if I had injector pulse and apparently checked that
so ruling out a new ECU he said.

Trailer or test crank angle sender.
I would not have the faintest were to find a crank angle sensor cept
near the crank so will check this,

Is it somewhere round the flywheel?
