The first one the tyre went flat and the crack was discovered when it
went in for repair, took it back to the place of purchase and complained
long and loud as to the suspect quality if these wheels, they tell me it
was bent in one place and showed me the small dent on the wheel outer
rim using the wheel balancer, to this end the manufacturer would only
offer me a replacement at cost after the sales rep viewed the wheel
and of course they no longer make the shadow chrome, only silver so I
would have to go get it painted
after much complaining they would not budge, just offer me a replacement
at cost
"Fuck it" I thought $90(they sell for just over $200 retail...hmm nice
mark up) for the replacement and $60 for paining
so the order placed for the new wheel
Well Fuck me, wife went off to her sisters today and got 3 klms out of
town when the other rear tyre went flat, she stopped and took a look.
And there it was, nice big crack on the outer side of the rim(other one
was inner side of the rim) and this time the tyre side wall is fucked as
well, wife had to drive 200 metres to a safe place to stop
there are no big pot holes on our main road, it is a rough bitumen rd
though with plenty of bumps
Yet the tyre dealer tells me these wheels are good and can handle our
roads, I don't know what roads he is talking about but they certainly
can't handle anything outside the city at 100kph
I'll see what kind of deal thses guys can come up with on a new set of
DIFFERENT brand wheels and one replacement tyre
if they don't want to come to the party they can get fucked as well
Kev
To be honest, I would having a chat with external parties about this. Maybe
it's a manufacturing issue and it doesn't take too many of these sort of
issues to cause a recall. They might be very keen to buy back the set and
cover this up VS it costing them a lot more in the long run.

Of course the latter course of action leaves ...how
many...faulty/unsafe wheels out there in wood-duck territory?
They'll buy back the wheels to prove they don't give a shit.
They'll recall the wheels from that batch if they do give a shit.
Unless of course they knew what was going on all along.
In which case they'll act precisely as they're doing right now.
Remember, shareholders 'matter' more than customers.

Yeah well this doesn't help the fact that I have to spend $1000 tomorrow
to get new wheels for the wife's car as we need both cars on the road
Kev
What did you do with the originals?
You don't *have* to spend $1000.
Yeah pick up some steelies, that stolen look is so hot right now ;)

A great deal of these aftermarket mag weels are now made in China using poor
quality alloys. Next time you get a chance, are your wheels stamped with a
"690Kg" load rating? This a the AS - but does not mean they are made from
good quality materials.
Also, depending on your wheels design, many designs are severely compromised
by way of strucural integrity for the sake of a fashion statement.
Aren't there strict Australian stds for this kind of component? If so, they
might be falling short.
Jason
>Well I have had two wheels crack on me in the space of 6 weeks

Are these wheels made by an Australian company or some place overseas? I'm
looking at some of the Simmons wheels at present (prices, like with all
fancy wheels, are on the high side though). Saab at one stage used Simmons
wheels (in 1981 on the Australia-only 'Enduro' model).

I don't know which to be concerned ahout, their quality control (which
i'd put at shitful right now, as you aren't known to come in here
talking shit, or covering up any issues which you might have caused) or
their attitude to customers with issues.
Lots of companies talk the talk when it comes to making a sale, you
separate the men from the boys when you have an issue, and how they deal
with it.
thanks for the heads up about this. I can't honestly say I was 10
minutes from making a purchase from them, but now I never will,
seriously.

That was until the people at Simmons realized it was actually detrimental to
their product :)

I disagree.
I think Simmons make one of the most over-priced peices of shit ever passed
off as a wheel, and their modular design is fucking garbage. The number of
bent or deformed Simmons outer rims I've seen as a result of *very* minor
bumps is staggering.

Yeah well they can bash them where the sun don't shine
Looked at a set of ROH wheels this morning.
looked good
Most of the wheels are made in Taiwan or China
I also looked at some BSA wheels, don't know where they are made though
but the ROH ones looked quite good so maybe they will be what I'll get
Kev
I don't even remotely know if there's been any changes in their quality
control and generally sound construction, but I can vouch 110% for ROH
70s spec mags. Uninspiring in aesthetic they may be (5 slot jelly bean
RT charger stuff) but I've not seen one let go in anything short of a
prang that left the rest of the car fucked (and they broke as a result
of the crash, not vice versa)

Looks like I'll have to keep looking
ROH don't have a wheel with a bit of dish(I hate the sheels with spokes
that protrude out past the tyres)in either a 17x8, or if they do it's
for Commondore or Jap
How friggin hard is it to make one for a Ford
Kev
> How friggin hard is it to make one for a Ford
It's not hard at all, but if the demands not there they ain't going to
bother.

Regards,

If Ford made Falcons that have wheels with metric PCDs like everyone else,
it'd be a lot easier to find ones that fitted.
* maybe they do by now, I don't know :-)

Sounds strange.
Ford, Toyota (except Lexcen badged commodes), Mitsu and several other co's
run the same stud pattern. Most of the mag manufacturers make rims to
suit?!?

Yeah there are plenty of 17x7 and made for the Magna or other FWD with
the incorrect offset
I am after a 17x8 with 35-38 offset
I've orederd a set of CSA "Chase" rims
I was going to include the link to them on CSA'a webpage but they are a
new release and not on the CSA's "New Release" page yet
was looking at "Speedy" wheels, I have conflicting info on them
been told they are Australian made, but I saw a set today at a
Bridgestone dealer and they had "Made In Taiwan" stamped on the back of them
And they had the crappiest chrome job I have ever seen(not that I was
looking for chrome alloys)
so what gives???
Kev
> so what gives???
There's not too many wheel manufacturers in Australia these days, as most
have moved to off-shore manufacturing. They might still be Australian
companies, but very few make anything here.

Regards,

Yeah seems that way
I know at least ROH, CSA and Performace are still Aust Made
the CSA wheels I have ordered look great, $220 EACH
Kev
Out of curiousity, what was the freight worth from Wellie to Bris? Around
20kgs was it?
So having them appear on rice-burning cars isn't? 8-)
K-ching for me!
> So having them appear on rice-burning cars isn't? 8-)
No, it isn't.
Nothing appearing on rice burners is.
> K-ching for me!
Lol :)
That's pretty funny coming from someone who thinks Saab make a good car :)

Madness
but of course the steelies will still be woring long after the alloys
have been bent and scratched beyong recognition
I was thinking the CSA "Scorpion" wheels would look damn good on my
cruiser though
Kev
I fucked up
the brand is ADVANTI RACING WHEELS
they are cheap nasty shit that are only good for melting down and making
beer cans out of

A bit of spray-on silver paint will make them look good as new.

It really looks hot now
Got the two original alloys on the front
the black spare steelie on the rear left
and a silver steelie on the rear right
The new CSAs had to come from SA so they should be here for fitting Thur

Fucking DUHHH!!!
run them with 38psi as set and recomended by the manufacturer

try running on anything other than a highway

As I said, cheap nasty taiwanese shit
getting then replaced was not going to happen, the rep used the "not
covered for pot hole damage" hellooooooo, Australian roads = potholes
and after seeing how they handled our local road I wouldn't have wanted
another replacement set anyway
I now have Australian made CSA/Mullins wheels and no problem at all
the two Advanti rims that had not cracked(but still bent) look ok on my
6x4 box trailer though
