Any advice good or bad on a brand new 2009 Nissan Tiida auto (white only)
for $20,000 driveaway cash no trade? What other small/med cars are in the
$20,000 bracket you'd recommend guys ...and Sylvia. My suggestion was the
Getz but he's not interested. (too small).

Point him in the direction of the nearest shop that sells eye glasses.
The little Nissan is the ugliest new car on the market, only a blind
person would want one.
Suggest an I30.

In that class I'd recommend nearly *anything* before the Tiida, unless the
spec is for a sloppy handling pudding of a car that feels bigger on the
road than it is. My son just got back from driving one in Tas and said
that a Magna feels smaller on the road. He and his wife both disliked it.

Hatch or sedan?
Focus CL is a better drive but can be a bitch to work on.
Hyundai i30 SX Hatch good all round vehicle.
Both around 20-21K driveaway with no arm twisting.
Kia Cerato S Sedan, basically a better value i30 these days.
Maybe 19-20K.

If they're just looking at VFM transport, straight line performance isn't
an issue and they can live with trim that may get shabby by 80-90,000, the
Proton Persona is pretty hard to go past at about 16.5K. Personally, I'd
buy one ahead of the Tiida anyday. Cheers

**Much as I hate to judge a car by it's looks, the Tiida is, by a very
considerable margin, the ugliest car ever made. Look at a Honda Jazz (or
anything else) first. If I was dropping 20k on a car, I'd be looking
seriosly at the Hyundai I-30. You should be able to get one for $20k.

I had to go have a look, after all the comments about how ugly it is.
Yeah, it's ugly alright - but personally I thinks theres quite a few
uglier vehicles around than that!

How about the Ssangyong Musso? Is it possible for a vehicle to be uglier
than that?!?! Honorable mention goes to the current Mitsu Triton. I
should probably also mention the current Hilux here as well.

I honestly don't know why anyone would even consider a Tiida.

Protons are the most horrid POS, wouldn't recommend one to anyone at any
price.

I don't consider the Megane to be ugly at all... the Tiida on the other
hand. Previous model Hilux was an ugly thing, and the current Triton is
hideous.
The Fiat vans are fugly as hell too.

Ssangyong are as unappealing as the name suggests they should be, and are a
dog of a vehicle to boot.

i30 for mine, quite nice looking and fairly well put together.

Girl across the road runs an I30
quite a sprightly drive and she is delighted
as for the Tilda I actually followed one for some 10 minutes today
he drove 10k under the limit and actively blocked almost 2 full lanes
shiity looking car and dreadful driving

( wasn't wearing a Trilby either)

The ugliest large 4WD? Toss-up between the X6 BMW and the Dodge Nitro. I'm
leaning towards the Nitro as the ugliest. I can understand why so many 4WDs
are ugly. There is no excuse for the Tiida. None whatsoever.

Dunno about the current Tiida, but when we were looking a couple of
years back we were horrified by the miniscule rear seat legroom. Jump
in one and adjust the driver's seat position for yourself, then check
the gap between the front seat and rear squab. Repeat in almost
anything else. Walk away from Tiida.

VFM (including resale)? Stretch the budget to a 'Rolla.

Were you including the Hummer in that list? I my not so humble opinion it's
one of the ugliest cars on the planet.

**Well, it is nonsensically huge, but (quite) as ugly as the Nitro IMO. Mind
you: We really are splitting hairs here.

IMO, only from the perspective of not bieng as woeful as the Tiida. Sorry,
but I'd save 2-3 grand spec for spec and buy the new Kia Cerato (24K
driveaway) - or else the Cerato Koup for about the same price as the
Conquest (26K driveaway ATM) if 2 doors would do. Have a look at the
comparison chart in the link. FWIW, I think the Kia *does* have a full
sized spare; the Koup certainly does. If you're keeping it for more than 2
years, 5 yr unlimited Km wty has to be an attraction. Cheers

Later model Ssangyongs leave the Musso for dead in the ugly stakes.

Neither of those are small cars and both are good lookers compared to
the Tiida.

I would generally agree but a mates wife has a Proton Satria Gti which
has been very reliable in the couple of years since they bought it.
AFAIK its only had regular servicing.

Getting stuck behind one of those ugly things is to be avoided if you
don't want to loose your last meal:-)

I know of a few and they seem to go through wheel bearings on a regular
basis and the interiors fall to pieces.

Maybe OK for a city runaround if you're no too bothered about the lack of
safety, the rattles and the various other annoyances.
