Could someone please explain what "shity" and "shities" mean? Are these
derived from the term I've heard mostly from Irish people, "shite"?

Oh, and if this little troll doesn't know of any Fords that are crap then
he/she doesn't know of many Fords ... (just to keep the trollin' rollin' ...)

For what reasons????????

And ford are so holy????? Look at the way most of them lean, I mean the front of the car is higher than the back of the car. Great look.

|> Holdens are screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any reasons to back that up????

You really are a lamer, bet you dont even have a license yet, oh "Holdens are shit fords are better, I know cause I know someone who had a holden." I can say the same about fords i know someone who had a ford. If ya going to say holdens are shit at least give a reason why ya tosser. I own a holden and havent had a problem with it. And it does drag most fords of at the lights. no mods.

I must on principle protest and cry out "There's No Such Thing As A Shity Old Subaru", while knowing
full-well that Subaru have pretty much made nothing of much use beyond the Liberty/Legacy, Impreza,
and SVX.

I suppose an old Leone RX could be of use if rallying, but not much else ...

Which reminds me, I saw a Camira-y thing the other day. The artful fellow
who owned it had got some of those stick-on letters, and on the boot he'd
written "Tom's Trash Pack".

In Canberra there's a garbage hopper business called Tom's Trash Paks and
their motto is "Satisfaction Guaranteed or Double your Rubbish Back".

Now this is one crap generalisation (excuse spelling please).
What brings you to this hypothesis?
I'm guessing it is not because the most popular car ever in Aust. is the HQ
By the figures of amount sold, only now is it finally being beaten by the
new VT
because it is also being sold overseas.
Now if that is shit then fuck me dead.
I own both a HQ shagging wagon and a HQ GTS Coupe
and i might say i am a bit biased but fuck do they hammer !

First premise - Agreed - Fords rule - Never see a Holden GT40
Second Premise - 4 letters L - A - D - A

P.S I've driven a HQ - 202 Traumatic(sic) gearbox No mods. Good car,
solid, only didn't go too good after the 202 gave up and a 173 replaced
it.

Well, I think if you look at overall sales of the Ford F-series truck, it beats
any Holden; probably beats all Holdens overall. And yet, the F-series truck is
a piece of elephant dung ... so your theory might not hold water!

Yet to see a modern Ford that can keep up with any 5.7 litre Commodore.
Also yet to see a Ford Diablo, a Ford Xantia, a Ford Galant VR4, a Ford
Silver Spirit, or a Ford 2CV; hell, I've never even seen a Ford Montreal!

I presumed Daniel meant never seen Holden build a GT50 competitor.

I'd hazard a guess and say the current Mustang Cobra would piss on the
5.7 Commodore, not to mention of course the Saleen Mustangs.
Ford exoticars - not in the same league as a Diablo but arn't Jags and
Aston Martins Fords now.

Xantia, Silver Spirit, 2CV - who'd want to build one of them!!!
Galant VR4 - wouldn't the Cossie scrote be the Ford competitor?

Just jiggling the tea bag :-)

If you're bringing in Ford USA product, I think the Corvette can be
classed as a competitor to the Mustang ... and beat it. But I still
reckon a 5.7 VS would get pretty close to a Mustang Cobra; you've gotta
take into account "American Times" when reading 0-400m times from the
USA after all (14.6s Maxima? Hah!!)

Actually, I had forgotten the Sierra Sapphire; the Escort is much

If my VL was the sole example of a HOLDEN I'd say they sucked too, but it
isn't. I know of a lot more fords that have had some serious problems than
HOLDENS including my last car, a KA laser. It had only 80,000 k's on it but
it had a lot of problems, not to mention my parents last car, an EA falcon,
what a piece of shit. Just about everything that could break or play up did,
so they pissed it off.

In summary, I think (personal opinion here) that HOLDENS are much better
than fords and I'll buy an excel before another ford. I've persevered with
the VL and it seems to be going strong now, no problems at all.
If anyone wants to bitch, forget it, I don't care.

There *was* a car that when it was first designed, and they came up with
the "artists impression" drawings, actually had oval shaped wheels - no,
I'm not kidding! They couldn't work out why the pre-production models
didn't look quite right - 'till someone noticed the wheels in the drawing
were ovals...

"Fuel injection cutout" would have been a relatively dangerous thing to have at the
time though, wouldn't it? I can imagine you'd have all sorts of problems with leaning

Yep! It's a Subaru, it's very "shity", and it's got plenty of grease,
usually all over the engine bay :)

At least Subaru owners can be happy in the fact that long after their car is

So what? I've never seen a Ferrari finish 9 out of the top 10 at
Bathurst either; well, those A9X's must be quicker than a 308GTS!

That was Bathurst 78 right? before Moffat pitted and had the fire
problem, wasn't he leading?

The problem with the A9X era, was Ford withdrew from racing after 78,
whereas Holden seemed to have stepped up their efforts and Brocky was
on a high.

The rear suspension seems to be attached to the same chunk of metal as the
towbar assembly. Someone please explain to me how a rear wheel drive Holden
(not leaf-sprung) gets stretched by towing?
If it is stretched, what is being compressed? The locating arms?

I can see how a FWD car could 'possibly' be stretched, but as Arnie

tow bar is also attached.

Don't be so sure!!
I'll would like to know the full result of challengers,(& there car setups etc)
to maybe have a better idea of the comparison.
Also the E49 Charger was quicker than the 360 v8,so I would say engine mods
in this competition are fairly "open slather"

The bottom line is that if your into serious drag racing your behind the 8 ball
if you dont go Mopar.
Hell even the Australian champ(name?) who drives the 57 chev has a HEMI big
block under the bonnet!!
aaHHHHHHHHH I hear all you Holden/chev devotes scream

Well, as a non-Ford-lover, it would be a hard choice for me between an XD & a
VK to win a "most crap car of the 80's" award. Which says good things for the
Ford, as it's 5 years older.

A9X hatches are almost non-existant - the 4 doors are not that hard though.
Atleast it is very difficult to fake a A9X and do it properly - re Rear
floor pan setup.

Wasn't this the year that all but two of the cars where A9X Toranas. I
seem to remember Ford having similar success at Bathurst with the
Sierra. A 4 cyl turbo thrashing the VL Commodore V8's.
Correct me If I am wrong but I think even Brocky drove a Sierra. If not
there were definitely Mobil sponsored Ford Cosworth Sierras.

The article was around 7 or 8 years ago I think, on top? 427 cubic
inch Cobra, the Boss 351 Mustang is near the top too, in fact this car

Hi Kieron,
I forgot about the Shelby Cobra.A little above the average blue collar workers
wallet though, even when they first came out. Now, well you would be pushing it to
own a replica.Even a boss Mustang was pricey compared to the huge range of
Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth, at time of release in the states.
Some of the MOPARS are very collectable now like the Superbee,Cuda,Challenger,
Duster,Charger,Swinger, etc, etc (don't you love those names) :)
But the reason they were so popular is the average guy/gal could own a 340,383,
426, or a 440 & blow the doors of everything bar a couple of exceptions!!
It's much the same in OZ, with the Valiants & Chryslers.Stock standard & their
still the best bang for bucks. The Charger for example.
Even my VF regal coupe with the 160HP slant 6 surprises a lot of new cars today.
I love anything Chrysler to death (in case you havn't noticed 8^),& it's one of
my lifes goals to go to the states & purchase one of the yank MOPAR classics
bring it back with me,& enjoy the pure grunt these family sedans/coupes
provided!!
The low production models are now beyond me,but you can pick up a 383 Dart
swinger for under $10000 US
Cheers
Jeff

Kieron, have I bored you with this story from a Ford-nut mate that lived in the USA for a few
years?

He used to make a living doing all sorts of odds-&-ends stuff, one of them being buying &
selling cars. He & friends used to get the equivalent of the Trading Post at some disgusting
hour of the morning, and often drive all sorts of distances to get hold of bargains.

Anyway, one car they looked at was some $500 Mustang, no rust but a stuffed engine. When they
started it, it ran really roughly; but when they looked under the bonnet (and there may be more
external clues, but I don't know) it was definitely a Boss 351; and they took it for a test
drive, and once out of sight they tuned it or attached the spark leads in the right order or
something, and it ran perfectly ... so they stuffed it up again, took it back, paid the guy $250
for the "piece of crap", and took off. It apparently still had the correct build papers in a
plastic bag sealed underneath the carpet under one of the front seats, and ran perfectly.

Anyway, I just thought I'd make you drool, or bore you, one of the two! ;-)

The Boss 351 wasn't that expensive, the Boss 429 (which I forgot to
mention) was the expensive Boss.

OK,Ok, You got me!!! :)
I swear they put those things together from Chrysler afterbirth!!! :)
The only part of it that I could love to death would be it's Chrysler badge.
The last Chrysler Sigma wasn't bad,but it was still a Mitsubishi.

"Ohhhhrrrhh" I can't stand even typing that horrible takeover word!!!!!!

Would be interesting to compare times & price with the Cuda 340 6pak.
If you say the Boss 351 was the quickest small block I'll beleive ya I
suppose,(much as it pains me). :(
I'll dig up some facts in my literature if I can, & post soon!!
Have a HEMI good day,

Heck, my folks just towed an old ( heavy ) caravan Adelaide to Darwin, then
down the west coast and back to Adelaide. Then on another trip, as far as
Brissy with some hard climbs through the mountains and back again. Towing
vehicle ? VS Commodore...methinks you dunno what you're talking about....

Mustangs are not hard to trace, the VIN gives away the engine type and
body style. Some Mustangs still have build sheets under the carpet or
behind the dash.

>Anyway, I just thought I'd make you drool, or bore you, one of the two! ;-)

Good story, I could have purchased a Boss 351 for $7,000 10 years ago,
it was RHD but the previous owner had done one burnout to many on some
ultra wide steel belt radials and took out virtually the whole RR
quarter of the car. It was for sale again a few years back with new
rear panels/diff/motor for $18,000, I already had my GT by then
though.

What's the latest on your Mustang? Still selling it, or has Mrs

Ummmm yes and no - I think you are refering to 1987 when Bathurst was a
round of the International GpA world Championship and the Sierras kicked
arse except for mr P.Brock driving his VL - he came 3rd?? on the day, but
was declared winner after a few months of protests and appeals against the
Texaco Sierra team.

From memory from 1988-1999 Brock drove for BMW and then in 90 he had a
Sierra before changing back to the VN commodore in 91 (these dates are a
little hazey as I cannot be fucked looking them up - but the cars are
correct)

Later....

advertised it yet, going on holdays in a few weeks and will advertise
it after that, if it doesn't sell withiin a month, i'm going to keep
it and bring it as close to showroom as practical for a daily driver.
Oh, yeah and add baby seat mounts in the back!!!

I was thinking of butchering a car of mine this way, but my
little kiddie is now big enough to sit in an anchor-less booster.
Just wait until their big enough (and old enough to appreciate

Hmmm, if where talking rare stuff, how about a SOHC 427 Mustang or a
Ford Thunderbolt or maybe a supercharged 427 Cobra.

Unfortunately the rear seats only have lap belts, so I still need

Yes, I've heard the rumours quite a bit (never seen the evidence), but how
does the body get stretched by towing?

OK guys youv'e rubbed my fur backwards once to often!! :)
The following are facts about the all conquering 426 HEMI,
In 1964 the running of the famed Daytona 500 saw Paul Goldsmith take pole posi.
All the Ford,Pontiac,& chev contingent scoffed saying it wouldn't go the
distance!!
Result, 1-2-3 victory,& winner Richard Petty, driving the Plymouth, lapped the
feild twice running over 175mph, averaging 170mph.
1966 was another victory over the 427 Fords & Chevs.
In 1965 NHRA Pomona drags results include,
Top stock Eliminator,& class champion.Plymouths 426 behind it all.
In 1968 factory fitted super stokers (Darts & Cudas),could do low
10's down the 1/4 mile.
Even today the top fuel funnycar 426 is the one to beat.

Now I admit that not all these cars are street driven, but you could order the
tweaked 426 as an option for your streeter.
The 426 has well & truely proved it's metal over all other challengers from
Ford,Chev,Pontiac,etc

Ahhhhh thats better, now play nice!!! :)

Shaking my head? Hell, I built one of these many years ago, but with
the 2.6 litre motor instead of the smaller one. It was sort of fun
once you (a) got over the initial axle tramp and (b) kept your speed
under 120Km/h to stop the doors from lifting from the body and (c)
didn't approach corners fast enough to set the brakes on fire.
That particular car wore a scar on it's left front guard where I got
a little over-enthusiastic one night experimenting with the
oversteer (and slow steering) to my detriment. The guy who
bought it thought it was great. So did I until I drove a car
that steered and stopped correctly. (Mostly my fault, the only brake
mods I did were to fit a power booster, and the only suspension mods
consisted of putting new shocks in).
