Well, had a garage session today (in the lovely pouring rain that passes for
post-xmas weather in melbourne) on my friend's 300zx tt... a total of 3
different tyre brands on his ride. The rear tyres were the same, but each of
the front tyres were different yet again!
If nothing else, it's not a great idea, 'cause you'd think the different
tread patterns would give different amounts of grip and all its subsequent
sequelae.
As for the 300zx... it's getting 4 new boots for the compliance/roadworthy
thingies when they roll around :)

I don't know who told you that, but it is a load of crap!
As long as the tyres have sufficient tread to provide adequate grip and
water dispersal characteristics is does not matter what tread pattern
they are. How many of you have a spare wheel which is fitted with a
totally different make of tyre to those fitted on the car. I know I
have!

"That guy over there has boots the size of coal barges"
ie: For a car you can have different patterns/brands/size on the front than
on the back, but both front tyres must be the same, and both rears must be
the same!
Any proper RWC should knock you back if the same axle has a mix.

I'm not too sure about the legalities of it, but I think that logic would
tell you that it is better to keep the tyres on each axle the same.

given that the Oz $ is about 0.39 pounds.... That's about 19.50 in the UK...
