What other cars did he have, if any? During the show,
he was driving an extremely nice looking metalllic blue
Mustang convertible, but I'm just talking about the
opening credits here! ;-)
-Forg (Elsewhere)
1. Triumph Sunbeam (this was the Triumph with the 289 Windsor V8)
2. Karman Ghia
3. Mustang
4. MG (I think this only appeared once or twice).

He uses an Opel Coupe in later episodes.
Also a Sunbeam Tiger.

What kind of car did Max drive?
Max drove four different cars in the shows.
The first was a red 1965 Sunbeam Tiger, driven in the open in the first two
seasons. However, according to Dick Sanders of the Pacific Tiger Club:
"a look-a-like Sunbeam Alpine (rebadged with Tiger script on the side) of
the same vintage ('65 or '66) was used in almost all of the shows where a
Sunbeam appeared. There wasn't room to mount a machine gun (or much of
anything else) under the hood of the V8-powered Tiger, so they used the
Alpine which has a smaller 4-cylinder motor." Carmen M. has correctly
pointed out that, despite my earlier assertions, Max drives a Ferrari 250
GT Spyder California.
In the next two seasons, Max drove a blue VW Karman Ghia. However, in at
least one episode of the fourth season, "A Tale of Two Tails," Max drives a
different blue convertible. Alert viewer Rodney Noriel pointed this out and
says that the car is a convertible Mustang. Thanks to Rodney for pointing
this out. David from Virginia has written to say that it was a Mustang
Shelby GT500KR Convertible. Jodi Goldfinger also pointed out that it was the
Chief's car, not Max's, so it doesn't really count toward's the above total.
In the final season, Max drove a gold, 1969 Opel GT. Interestingly enough,
Max's Opel also appeared in the movie "Stripes." Special credit must go to
Charles Goin, President of the Mid-Atlantic Opel Association, who identified
the cars used for me, since I can barely tell a Honda from a Ford.
Don Adams got to keep the Tiger and he ended up giving it to both his
daughters, who both crashed it. According to Steve L., the Tiger is
currently on display at the Playboy Mansion in LA (How you could look at a
car while you're at the Playboy Mansion I'll never know!). For those of you
interested in the Sunbeam Tiger, check out the Tiger Page. Thanks to Dick,
Steve, and especially Charles for giving me such excellent information on
the cars.
Pete's Get Smart Page has an excellent section on Max's cars, including
images of all of the cars.

What a lovely but supposedly deadly car that was. I heard many stories about
drivers crashing them and having their legs crushed. It was probably more of
an Urban Myth proposed by some of the anti-small car Americans more than
anything.

I was _pretty_ certain he drove an Alfa Spider in some episodes...
