But lately I came to thinking that being RB series engines, maybe they
were all the same, or similar design and therefore would have the same
position engine mounts, making it a much easier swap for the current
engine.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of conversion? Yes, I
could ring up the wreckers and ask them directly but at the moment i am
just in the dreaming/planning stage of the conversion, until i have
saved the money to even think about purchasing such an engine...
Also, I expect the original diff/driveshaft can be still used when i do
make the swap?
thanks

It sounds much cheaper than mucking around with replacement engines...
200kw is quite a sensible output level from an RB30..
Check this newsgroups achieves, I do remember someone saying they put an
RB20 straight into a skyline...
ciao
Hiya's, I have put a RB20 twin cam turbo in my r31 silhoutte, it
drops straight in, only change is the heater hose, and some wiring for
the air con, but its a fairly simple change over. The standard clutch
wouldnt last long, so i also fitted a button clutch, which is also
starting to slip? Buggers me how?. I use the standard rb20 computer with
the fuel turned up.
If you can get a rb20/25 half cut, i would also use the gear box too, as
the aussi g/box's arent real strong. The stock LSD will take that power
fairly easy, i've been told that the borg warner diff is good for around
400hp. But i dunno if thats true. I did try to get a rb25 turbo legal in
my car in S.A but will all the government regs and shit, it wasnt worth
going through the 100 pages of crap. Ah, also fitting GTS2 brakes would
be a BIG help too, and trust me, with that sort of power behind it, you
will need bigger brakes.
Anyway
Cheers
Andrew

Anyone know how much power one of these RB20 turbo's puts out?
Thanks

Not necessarily. To stick a turbo on a non-turbo RB30, you're looking at at
least a partial rebuild. Along with the original cost of the engine, that
could easily blow out beyond the cost of a replacement motor which is mostly
the same shape anyway, and then there's the turbos themselves, and all the
other accessories; I personally think the import motor would be cheaper.

I think from about 120kW up to around 150kW, approximately; it depends
on the age of the engine, DOHC, the type of turbos, etc.

My thinking exactly. One reason for a new engine, is although the
current one is still ok, its drinking a bit of oil at the moment, and
the injectors are clogged and the oxy sensor is RS. This i'll get
fixed, but im looking for a newer engine for the car.
Im expecting that just the turbo and parts needed will cost the
$2500-$3000 the new engine will set me back (with G'box hopefully) and
ill have a low mileage, 93 model engine in the car then. Sure something
might have to be done to the engine bay, but after its in, I expect
getting 250+ kw out of the supra engine isn't too imaginative...

Yep, thats what i hope to do.

Yeh, thats going to be the next thing to be thinking about. And keeping
the insurance will be interesting too..

yeh, never understood that though.. What is the difference from
slowing from 180k's with a 120kw engine, or a 200kw engine?
but anyway... some later skyline four calipers for the front would
probably be in the lineup anyway... I wouldn't expect these would be as
standard ( I could look but couldn't be bothered..)
