If you live in Southern Sydney.... avoid bying a new Holden from
Greg Ball! Their service is a peice of crap.... to be nice!
Let's take the most recent debarkle with dad's car (there is an
everlasting list)..... the climate control died, and then they said
they couldn't get a new one after having the car for 2 days, he then
oput it in for A WEEK when he was on hols and they put a newer model
climate control in, the head mechanic tested it and said it was fine!
Dad gets it back after his hols and takes the car home.... only to
find that the climate control only heats and they moved his garage
remote. He went back... they had hidden the remote in his glovebox
(not where he keeps it), and they said that part of the climate
control motor was busted (not sure what because I had tuned out by
this stage), that's right it was teh compressor???.... anyway.... dad
had had it tested about 3 mionths ago and the mechanic said it was in
better condition than most other cars of the same age (90 model) and
shouild last for ages! So therefore they are incomopetent in
diagnosing or incompetent in workmanship....OR MORE LIKELY BOTH!!!!
As I said.... this is but one debarkle up there at that PLACE! Many
times dad's car stays there 3 or 4 days MORE than reasonably expected.
They stuffed his central locking..... it didn't lock the back door
sothey fixed it and now the back window doesn't wind down (power
windows)..... they are CRAP!
So AVOID GREG BALL HOLDEN at ALL COSTS! This is about the only way I
can think of to "hurt" the bastards up there.... I hope that by this
message I may prevent some people from going there!
I'd like to hear from anyone else who has been "stung" by these
pricks!

Please ignore this message now! It seems as though they finally got
the climate control fixed... after soooo long! Anyway.... I was just
venting my frustration.... and now that all is well....
anyway.... JUST IGNORE THIS MESSAGE THREAD NOW!
thanks...

Unfortunately all dealers seem to be as bad as each other, and if you
want anything done you have to hassle them, and accept that they will
charge a fortune.
If its a new car, under warranty, they will only do what they have to do,
until the customer stops complaining.
My father has sent his car there several times ('94 VR Statesman V8). The
first time when the engine management died, they had someone from
Melbourne come up to fix several Statesmans' with the same problem. They
fixed the problem, but stuffed the sump plug when the changed the oil,
but it was easier to fix it himself than send it back.(he is a mechanic
with his own business. I'd recommend him, even though I'm biased).
Then he had a problem with the fuel gauge, and he ran out of fuel as a
result, stuffing the injectors which isn't covered by warranty (this
really impressed him :-) ), and I think it took him a while to get them
to fix the gauge.
Last time it had a water leak in the engine, so they had it for a few
days, and when he brought it home he still had to finish the job, not
sure what he had to do, but he had the tappet covers off, and had the
shits.
He has owned heaps of cars from new, and nearly all of them have had
problems and he has had blues with the dealers to get them fixed. When
we had a Bronco the dealer smashed it, badly repaired it, and ended up
giving him a new one. His Merc 280E spent about 6 months on and off with
the dealer, as it had problems with the diff and automatic, didn't go
like it should have, as well as being smashed during a test drive. He
also had a Range Rover which didn't perform or run properly, but was
fixed after several dealers had stuffed about with it.
He only sends his cars to dealers for warranty claims, even though he is
a mechanic. Why should he fix a new car himself ? I suppose he is pretty
fussy about his cars, they have to be almost perfect, but if he has
trouble with the dealers, what hope do other car buyers have ?

Maybe he just rubs up the dealers the wrong way?
I've never had a problem of a major nature with with a dealer which
couldn't be solved by smiling a lot and not blaming them for the
problem.

Woo-hoo are you living in eternal optimism...
I seriously think that depends on what you mean by "solved"--their
terms or yours.

Hi Scott,
How does running out of fuel stuff the injectors? Does this happen on
all FI cars? I've not heard of this before, and want to know if it's
something I should be wary of.

I guess it comes down to which dealer you go to. I have a Subaru, and
have never had anything but praise for the guys that service and work
on the thing. They have even fixed things on my car for free, well out
of warranty! For what it's worth, my car is serviced by City Ford in
Melbourne (They are also the local Subaru service centre!).

But isn't the fuel normally sucked off the bottom of the tank
anyway (irrespective of the level of fuel). Any sediment in the
tank will most likely be sitting at the bottom, waiting to be
sucked up, whether or not the tank is full or empty.
Jim
The only real problem is that if there is crud in the bottom of
your fuel tank, the fuel pump will suck it all up and attempt
to push it through the weeny little holes in your injectors.
The fuel filter(s) should stop most of it though.

Thinking about it, you're right. The above information
could be an urban legend :-)
However, if there is not much fuel in the tank, the crud
to fuel ratio will be much worse. Perhaps this is what
causes the problem rather than the level of the fuel
itself.
I had just about the same problem with Strathfield Auto Sales. They are as
bad as each other.
I've brought in Dept. of Fair Trading into the fight and had good results.
