I pulled out the radio (to try installing a cd player, which wouldn't go
btw). On plugging back in the radio, it came u p with a little 1 on the
display, for the pin number input. I have the pin number, and I thought it
would be just a matter of punching it in with the preset selectors. Wrong.
The radio is now locked out. Does anyone know how to unlock the radio and
then put in the pin number properly? I don't really want to have to visit
Holden just to get my music back!

Help will be very much appreciated

Found it! Saved by the web again

If anyone is interested, here is the link......
http://www.uq.net.au/~zznweber/commodore/tech/#vsradio

This should work from VN to VS eurovox cassette/radios with security coding
i would imagine, it worked on the VP's unit. (It won't make it any easier if
you steal one though, you still need the PIN!)

Have a great new year everybody!!

Not the main manual. It's meant to be in one for the radio itself, but I
bought my car 2nd hand without the radio manual. Doh!

If it works like the old man's VS the Holden dealer plugs it into the
tune-up machine. Otherwise it goes back to Eurovox. I had this problem with
my old Barina( secondhand car, no PIN number). Eurovox quoted $80 to extract
PIN. I wised up and put it towards a decent stereo. These are the only 2
ways I know of.

you got ripped then.......same thing happened when i had my "engine
transplant" in my VR acclaim.

however i went back to holden and said that it wasnt working.......they
asked for the VIN number and came back 30 seconds later with my
code.....it's all on computer - holden should not have charged you. eurovox
would have charged you because i doubt they'd have holden's database, but
they should have told you that MOST holden dealers provide this service,
free of charge.

between my friends and I who have all had to do this at one stage at
another, we've been to 5 different holden dealerships across brisbane and
not one of them has charged for this service.

So what is it to reset it? I remember on my sister in laws festy, it blew a
fuse and she had to put the code in, which she didn't know, stuffed around
and locked it up. After a few phone calls the code was found and to enable
her to put it in she had to have power to the radio for about 10-15 mins I
think, then it just unlocked and she put the code in.
Anyway I'm asking because a mate hasd just put a CD player in his VR and I
was thinking of putting his old stereo in my VL, so I will need to put the
code in to reset it. Also on Barina's, we have a 98 model and I pulled the
stereo out the other day to check the plugs out for a CD player and when I
put it back in it still worked and all the stations were still in the
presets. Once it's unplugged shouldn't you need the code? It does have this
feature and I have the code, just seemed funny as it was totally
disconnected for about 5 mins or so and worked straight away when put back
in.

about the barina thing ?? the manual in my VR for the eurovox system
specifically states that it will require the code if the battery is
disconnected, but doesnt state for how long (one would assume as soon as
it's disconnected, it will require the code for operation) - maybe it has to
be disconnected for prolonged periods - like most new VCRs can be
disconnected from power for half an hour or so before they'll actually die
(battery backup, mainly to protect your programmed recording times). maybe
there's something like that in these??

and to put it in a VL - not a problem. u can enter the code 3 times before
locking it. when it's locked, it's locked for about an hour. when it says
it must be connected to power, just in your car while it's off is no
problem - it's not as if you have to be running your car or have it in
accessories mode for an hour each time. if you have the code, however, it
wont need to be entered in more than once. one thing i'm not sure of though
is if the codes are unique to the original engine they were fitted in. if
they arent i'd say you'd have to get the code reset, but with proof of
ownership and all the rest of the bullshit (they put alot of security
features into such a pissy little system, dont they?? :)

hope this helps

regards,
mupman
