You should be able to download spec sheets on both from Shells web site, or
so they tell me....

Anyways... last time I checked, Racing 100 is AvGas with a different label
and more taxes (oops, excises :-)

Last time I checked, there was no difference in the technical
specifications, they are both the same thing.

Avgas is liquid gold, BP100 is tarnished gold.

avgas has a higher octane rating.

Well whats the octane rating for Avgas?
The BP fuels and Lubrication guide states BP100 as typically 105-108
RON, avgas is more than that?

Isn't Avgas 108?

Hey, maybe I'm clutching straws here?

From memory, the "best" (read: hardest to get, most expensive) is called
JP-1A.. as in Jet Petroleum, I think.

Used in fighter jets and the like, not sure how Hyundai Excels might react
to it :)

Or, for that matter, my airflow sensor..

100LL Blue (civil) (Low Lead) (more lead than the old super)

100-130 Green (mainly used by the Airforce)

And the purple brew above 100-130 no longer made (115-145) I think.

I think the JP1 nozzle doesn't fit in the unleaded filler hole ;-)

Actually, jet fuel *is* more or less kerosene. Totally different to the
stuff you put in your car (or piston-engine plane for that matter).

It's just as well, since you'd blow your engine sky-high if you tried to run
it on kero!

Yep, but I was making the point that "jet fuel" does not resemble any of the
above and cannot be used in a conventional piston engine.

hehehehehehe..... JP-1A, Jet A-1...... are to diesel what Racing 100 and Avgas
are to petrol....

Don't even think about putting it in you road car, unless it's a diesel....

100LL and Avgas 100/130 are the same thing supplied by different oil
companies.

Why would the airforce need it anyway... they've just sold their last
DC-3's?

100LL is not the same as 100-130

The airforce still has Caribous. 100-130 Avgas (Nato Code F18) is the
required fuel
100LL is listed as an alternative for the Caribou.

You find the operaters that fly the Connie will use 100-130 but not 100LL
this aircraft was rated for 115-145.

avgas is illegal on the street and you can get fined $1000 per cylinder.
In last months Street Machine. not sure if it is true or not.

2 things could give it away Rob,
1) the colour, different fuels have different dyes in them, Racing 100
generally has no dye..... PULP is yellow....

2) R100 has a lovely sweet smell to it.... :-)

I know of where this has been done accidently in an aircraft and lemme tell you
the <40 RON of the Jet A-1 does not agree with piston engines!
