Matt....
Mate had a VL 5spd and we used to run side by side in my similar
skyline he had an exhaust on his as well.
0-100 low 8's
1/4 low 16's 16.4??
This is in street trim. Motor magazine probably claimed 14's for the
commodore
and 18's for the skyline but that is up to them. BTW it is a nissan
engine. It can't be a holden, it doesn't have push-rods! ;-)

The Skyline had a better standard exhaust than the VL and put out
118kW vs the VL's 114kW.

Sounds right.
Holden claimed 0-100 of 8.0 and a 1/4 of 16.6 if my memory
is correct. This was from an internal Holden document a salesman
had shown me when I was buying a VL in 1986.

n/a 3.0L 114 kW
turbo 3.0L 150 kW
Weights:
Commodore SL 1250kg (how DID the VT get so heavy!?)
Exec 1265kg
Berlina 1331kg
Berl Turbo 1290kg (?!)
Calais 1348kg
from Modern Motor:
0-100 400m
SL 5sp 9.58 16.79
Exec 4auto 11.08 17.77
Berl Turbo 5sp 7.63 15.58
These times recorded are slightly faster than what they actually are
due to MM's generous Correvit timer at the time (hadn't they ever
heard of calibration?)
Expect probably 15.7s from Turbo, 17s from n/a 5sp, 18.1s for n/a
4auto

Yes but you have to add in the Manufacturer figure 'fudge' factor!
Manufacturer figures are nearly always optimistic, except for Porsche
and BMW it seems.

So it's really about 9 seconds 0-100 then? They really didn't feel any
faster than that at the time!

My memory of the 0-100 may well be wrong.
The document was comparing the turbo to the N/A six,
the 1/4 times were 16.0 and 16.6, but I may have mixed up
the 0-100 times, perhaps the 8.0 figure was for the turbo ?
The GMH figures for the turbo were definetely slower than when
Wheels/Modern Motor tested the car.
Don't know about Porsche, BMW's times are actually quite bloated.
Example: BMW540 auto 0-100 factory claim 6.8 seconds but many road
tests has shown roughly 8.0 seconds is about right...and its an Auto, no
excuses
to say BMW had the perfect driver...

Yeah, that sounds more like it.

N/A, Both cars have modded exhausts and that's it.
Times measured with my G-tech, times consistantly achieved.
VL turbo? who drives a standard one of those?
