My partners Merrell boots have just about worn through the sole but the
upper is as good as new. Can Merrell boots be re-soled? They are the
nu-buck uppers with the sole glued not stitched. Any advice gratefully
appreciated (as usual)

Something to consider when buying expensive boots, A pair of scarpas may
seem very expensive initially but it is easy to buy replacement soles
which will greatly increase their lifespan. I have owned a pair of
scarpas for 10 years and they are almost through their original soles.
My partner has probably bought 10 pairs of volleys in that time. My
scarpas will probably last many more years after resoling. I have seen
volleys almost dustbin material after 2 weeks in SW tassie (and
everybody knows you come from NSW).
On the subject of resoling, my partner as a pair of florsheim boots, the
uppers look fine but the soles are almost through. The shoe repairer
said he could resole them but couldnt buy the soles. We took the boots
to florsheim, they still make the same soles but refused to sell them to
us. They suggested he buy a new pair of boots. Very frustrating, a waste
of good boots.

Bronwyn.
In the end we bought a pair of Rossi Cobars. My partner is quite happy with
these but less than happy with me straining the ligaments in my lower back
two days before we were due to walk the Riesling trail in South Australia's
Clare Valley. (But that makes up for her getting the flu last time we had
planned to walk it - hang on, there's a pattern emerging here...)
