I recently want to the NSW Southern Highlands but I was unable to get any
information about walking tracks around the various falls. The park ranger
only informed me about the walks around the top of the falls (a 10 minute
walk on the board-walk), I want to get to the base of any of Fitzroy,
Belmore or Carrington falls, taking no more than 5 hours.

Thanks in advance.

Paul,

A good book is Fitzroy Falls and Beyond by the Buddawang Committee 1988.

You could probably borrow it from a Library in the area. Anyway according to
it there is a "Valley Walk" which takes you to the base of Fitzroy Falls
apparently only 600m long.

Unless this has been closed this would be your best bet.

Robert Sloss puts out a book, Walking Tracks for the Southern Highlands, see
camping stores. The tracks to the bottom of Fitzroy are closed and in
disrepair. Belmore may have a way down, either the shute, to the right of
the falls, when looking at it from the lookout, or to the left via a
traverse in front of the cliff face to the base of the first fall. I have
forgotten where Carrington is, is that near Barren Ground?

I have been to the base of Carrington Falls. The route down is called
"Missingham Steps". It starts at Nellies Glen and leads to the river
downstream of the falls.

The walk to the base of Fitzroy was closed after a landslip in 1989 and
used to go all the way through to Kangaroo Valley. I believe Belmore and
Carrington Falls tracks are still open.
