punctures on the Yerranderie road

A recent SUBW posting concerned a trip to Yerranderie (two cars)
that got 3 punctures between Batsh camp and Yerranderie. Each car
had one spare tire and the 3rd tire was fixed by a local (from
Yerranderie?). The story seems to be that there's lots of punctures on
this piece of road and some people think that the road has been spiked.

I didn't get a reply to my further enquiries, so I don't know if nails
were identified as causing the punctures, why they didn't get an equal
number of punctures on the way out, or whether these were old
tires ripped up by sharp rocks. (I had a tire ripped up through a
relatively good tread presumably by a sharp rock on the way to the
Castle a couple of years ago).

Anyone got any idea whether there are any more puncture problems on
the Yerranderie road than for any other piece of dirt road?

Some years ago many tyres were punctured by specially made 3 cornered
steel spikes. A number were seen & picked up on the road. Recently two
cars had both front & back tyres on the passenger side punctured -
suspected by a fixed spike somewhere along. The mad puncture fiend is
at it again!

Yes, I have heard this too. The local repairman's way of drumming up
extra business?
