Hi,

This is a really specific question for anyone who's done a bit of
bushwalking on the Central Coast (NSW)... not really expecting anyone
can answer this, but thought there's no harm in asking.

The weir across Mangrove Creek at the end of Pembertons Hill Rd is
fenced off and Gosford City Council prohibits access across it... but
"Bushwalks in the Sydney Region" describes a walk crossing
the creek here... I've been there a couple of times and found that the
water level below the weir varies
quite a bit over the space of hours - allowing you to cross (legally)
across the creek below the weir
sometimes.

So my question is: is Mangrove Creek tidal below this weir ?

Regards,
Anthony.

Hi Anthony,
Yes, Mangrove Ck is tidal below the weir.
We've canoed up to it & had to partly portage the canoes to get there, then
canoed on the dam. When we went back, the tide had changed (as we had
expected from the tide chart)
& there was plenty of water to paddle back.
Margaret

I have a somewhat related question -

Does Mooney Dam (the old Gosford water supply before Mangrove Creek Dam
was built) still exist and can you get to it these days?

Isn't that on the Old North Road track?

And the weir, is that about a km or so from a Greek Orthodox
monastery? If so, I've walked across that weir. You've got to get
around the wire fence, so I suppose it's not technically legal.

Yes, still there.
Go up the Great North Walk from Mooney Mooney Bridge. This leads right
to it legally. No problems.
