I have a good pair of leather hiking boots with "skywalk" soles. I have been
told by a local shoe repairer that these can't be resoled - is this true?
I don't really have much faith in their opinion so could someone tell me
where I could get a good resole (with vibram or some other high quality
rubber) in Victoria preferably.
thanks

Resoling has almost nothing to do with the rubber sole. It has almost
everything to do with whatever is behind the sole: the construction inside
the boot. I thought that many Skywalk soles should be repairable, but I may
be mistaken.
Ask at a good bushwalking shop.

Cheers, Roger

Paddy Pallin in Sydney sells vibram soles for Scarpas seperately I
presume these would also fit other boots of similar construction.
I would recommend trying Paddys in Melbourne.
My local shoe repairer has told me they can resole my Scarpas when they
wear out if I supply the soles. They bought a machine especially so they
could do this sort of work (worth $20000). Not all shoe repairers have
this machinery so it is worth asking around to find one that does.
Ask your local shoe repairer if they know of a repairer who owns a
Blake-stitching machine. If you cant get to one yourself they should be
able to send the boots on for you.

Try Remote above Mountain Designs in Little Bourke St. If they can't help (and
I'm not sure they do boots (but they fix everything but0 I'm sure they know who
will

There is a company called "Walkalong"
524 Camberwell Road
Camberwell 3124
Ph. (03) 9889 2800
Fax (03) 9889 2800

I had a pair of Zamberlan boots with the front of the sole hanging of
both boots, courtesy of the Tasmanian boardwalks. Walkalong repaired
them by both gluing and sewing the soles to the boots. I am very happy
with the job they did.
At the time I spoke to them, they were doing resoles with the original
manufacturers soles.
My job cost $80 so it is not a cheap service but as I said I am quite
happy.

I've just had my Scarpas resoled by Walkalong and I'm very happy with
the job they did. My Scarpas had the old "skywalk" sole but the new ones
are Vibram as that's what Scarpa now use.

I had my old Vibram soled boots redone by Watts in Lygon St Carlton. The
first attempt when the glue gave way half way through the Overland Track
(wonderful what you can do with fencing wire and string). They re-did
them and all seems OK now.
