apparently there's a bunch of them doing Syd to Melb. The hilly way.

as described in SMS by a recumbent rider:

Sydney 0km 6am
Mittagong 127km 1155am
Goulburn 237km 540pm
Gunning 301km 9:10pm cold wet windy dark

Canberra 366km 1210pm, bed 1:15am, rise 415am, depart 500am,
Canberra control 515am, departed Hume 640am
(GPS shows 3800m ascent 3450 descent to Canberra)

Cooma 493km 1pm Struggling to keep warm
Cabramurra 600km 845pm Epic Weather ok but cool
(Australia's highest town at almost 1500m asl)
Corryong 682km arrived 3am, in bed 4am, rise at 545am, depart 645am
Bellbridge at 820km 1:15pm "Windy. Next section hilly - how unusual...!"
"at Beechworth 884Km 5:55pm"
"Arrived Euroa 1017Km midnight. Might lash out & have 4 hours sleep..."

"Departed Euroa 1017Km 6:25am 4:5 hours sleep, luuuuuxery..."
"Seymour 1072km 8:35am"

Andrew has made Seymour at 1072km 8:35am.
ie just 148km to go. Andrew may be at Albert Park Melbourne, the ride
finishes @1220km mid-afternoon today.

On 2009-12-01, Zebee Johnstone (aka Bruce)
was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea:

I bet you their clutch hand is sore. Mine certainly is after not even
500km yesterday. And I'm buggered after 8 hours of solid sleep.

Oh wait, wrong wheels.

Lol. I did my first Audax in October, a mere 300km. Then a 400 in
November. Six months ago I would have thought of a 200km ride as the
ultimate challenge, now I think of it as a warm up.

I think long rides are not too bad.

Riding up the bloody Snowys though...

Zebee
- who thinks riding *down* them would be OK, but alas what comes down
has to have gone up at some point

Yep, hills and bents don't mix do they?

Depends on the motor.

There are plenty of 'bent riders who manage hills quite well, you might
have noticed this thread's about one....

Me,I probably would be slightly slower up a hill than a similarly
unfit rider on a similarly weighted bike as I can't stand on the
pedals and mash my way up using bodyweight.

Once you talk about fit experienced riders the difference disappears
as far as I can tell.
