So if I boarded wearing a skirt, a singlet and thongs - I would be dressed
to their minimum standard. :-p

As a former flight attendant with Qantas where the standards for passenger
standards were similar, you would be amazed at how many customers need to
buy a shirt at the airport or thongs
Imagine sitting next to someone in a singlet with BO from SYD to London, or
bare footed in a galley with broken glass

Are they actually an Australian airline??? I keep thinking they're British
from the name.

Where it actually gets mildly interesting is when you get a chance to
fly on so-called companion passes.

Not sure if Aussie carriers have them, but a friend of ours works for
United Airlines, and she's sometimes passed on some of her companion passes.

They are transferable to family and friends. Totally stand-by, first
available - though that often lets you in to business or even first class.

At any rate, *there* you have real standards... no jeans, no t-shirts,
no thongs, sneakers. Tidy appearance, "business casual", shirts and
proper trousers with leather shoes for men. Blouses, trousers or skirts
for women. They can and *will* tell you to go back home and try again,
if they find you don't meet the standards (of the people at the counter
checking you over, of course...).

Additional to that
When travelling staff travel, the standard of clothing was such that you
stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the tourists
Staff were directed NOT to accept giveaway items when travelling Business or
First (that's if you could get past the politicians and friends of friends
travelling on freebies)
I was with them for 23 years have 2 round world trips owing, staff travel
for another 15 years or so (I am 46) and next week I am off on my 23rd
cruise - I would NEVER consider using a standby ticket as it is so much
easier buying a Virgin/Jetstar sector fare
Travel by aircraft was once glamorous and exciting, its now a series of
queues and delays
