I wonder how many of these people were either wandering around the cabin or were
in their seats but not buckled in. This is despite being advised to remain
seated and buckled in unless you need to go to the loo or whatever.
Further, I wonder what basis that they have to make such extraordinary claims,
in one case, $500k.
Win or lose, they are obviously an unacceptably high financial risk and
should no longer be accepted as a passenger on any flight.
When it is turned on, there is no doubt in the pax minds.
When turned off, one could argue that the other warning of 'keep seatbelts
on except when wanting to move' is not prominent in the mind of the
reasonable person who, rather, believes that authority has indicated 'all
clear'.
As an aside, has anyone seen or heard from SAM? I want to get him some
corro.
cheers

Of course he does. But, as I say in all of my PAs, it is quite possible to
hit some turbulence without any warning at all. We aren't psychic...and
radar doesn't show everything. I never even undo the 5 point harness
unless I need to get out of the seat.
There is no such thing as 'all clear'. Just 'I don't think the risk is
high right now'.

I should have stressed I'm thinking in the classic legal "after the event
apportioning of blame" by the silks and stuffs performing in front of their
scotch drinking ex silk master at the bench :) Not in any practical sense!

I'm glad to hear it. But that seems to imply that it's not a
requirement, which surprises me.

And you should have replied "look mate, if we hit turbulance and you come
flying towards me I'm going to smash you in the face with some carry on
luggage that will also probably be flying around the cabin. Nothing
personal - Just self defence."
