FLIGHT SQ 006, TAIPEI-LOS ANGELES

MEDIA STATEMENT BY DR CHEONG CHOONG KONG

DEPUTY CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER,

SINGAPORE AIRLINES

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming.

This evening, we have heard the preliminary findings
of Taiwan?s Aviation Safety Council. Evidence has been presented
by the investigation team which included experts
from Singapore. As unlikely as it seemed at first, the plane was on the
wrong runway. We accept this finding.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED that this airport had only ONE (1) switch to operate the
lighting onto BOTH rwys. THIS WAS WHY THIS PLANE CRASHED, ether both or none
of the runways were light, in such bad bad weather, the pilot chose the
first available runway, it was NOT his fault...

Exactly why SQ shouldnt really take the brunt of the blame......the airport
officials should really take the kick up the a*se, not SQ as much.
