Hi there

I am flying QF next tuesday on a MEL-SYD-CFS-NTL / NTL-CFS-SYD-MEL routing,
will quick check allow me to get boarding passes for all sectors on the same
day?

The old Ansett quick check machines would allow this but they pretended not
to have have any windows seats available, but if you went to a human, then
you could get a window seat, are the QF machines similar?

Also:

Went up to Maroochydore today on Virgin's first direct service from
Melbourne.

The aircraft was changed, was supposed to be VH-VBT from DJ 166 to VH-VBI
the usual first flight A/C, which came from SYD as a late running DJ 810.

Also noted at MEL was B737-BBJ N164RJ which arrived at about 10:30

Noted at MCY was a Vanair (Vanuatu) Dash 8 Reg ???

MEL-MCY
DJ 593 VH-VBI B737-700
MEL sch 10:45 act 11:11
MCY sch 12:55 act 13:16

MCY-MEL
DJ 594 VH-VBI B737-700
MCY sch 14:00 act 14:00
MEL sch 16:30 act 16:11

cheers

...and it will cost you $165 one way
The other airline wants 179.31 plus credit card surcharge for the same date
:-)

(ie spend your $14.31 plus credit card surcharge on Virgins inflight menu
or just bring sandwiches and a can of pop.)

cheers

It will through check you MEL-SYD-CFS. Not sure about CFS-NTL if done
in MEL.

Won't check you in for the return leg out of NTL (presumably on the
same day) as you cannot check in for a RETURN sector until you are
actually there (in case you miss flights).

Isn't it strange that "TLA" is a TLA.

Dunno what they will give you, but they will give me as much time in
the Qantas Club as I want (once it opens, of course), with free grog
from 1300 (how many Hahn Premiums can I manage between 1300 and flight
departure?????) along with munchies, priority seating (they KNOW I
like a forward aisle seat, so that is what I get) and priority baggage
(my bags are often on the carousel within two minutes of me getting
there).

In flight, you will get "something", depending on the time of day.
"Snack" flights consist of "the box", containing a cup of spring
water, something like a muffin or a sandwich, and a coffee cup. They
will then serve tea/coffee throughout the flight. On SYD-MCY, I would
expect two run-throughs with the tea/coffee.

Meal flights, the meal usually consists of a pasta salad with some
sort of meat - I have variously had beef, lamb, chicken and pork.
Quite nice, and since it is included in the fare, I don't mind eating
it.

Or go with QF and just make sure you drink more than $14.31 worth of booze
in the QF lounge before you leave :)

I hae it when you get there at 1310 for a 1700 flight, and they ask
you if you want to go on the 1400 flight. "No thanks". The 1430
flight? "No thanks" and so on.

Is there something special about VBI or do they
just want the same aircraft in all of the photos?

Experimental sounds odd. A google around suggests it is under charter for Bausch & Lomb. It is
regularly reported on spotters pages in Europe, so perhaps it is used to deliver priority orders of
high priority optical goods etc world wide ?

The fact that the owner is shown as a 'trustee' is very suggestive
that the aircraft is leased.

You wish they'd give you that sort of attention. Or is it just that you are so
abrupt and annoy other guests?

A mere fantasy if you think they are "giving" it to you. Either you or your
company are paying for the privelidge, either through Qantas club membership or
highly exorbidant fares which give you the right to enter.

Shhhhh! Don't say that too loudly.

They won't let you in anymore. On those types of flights you are losing
money for QF not making it.

If this is the sort of flights people are after, for that price booked in
advance, non changeable, non refundable, then DJ and QF are in direct
competition. Well and Good if you are able to take these flights. And as
much as I hate DJ at least they keep the bastard, somewhat, honest.

But full economy SYD-MEL fare of greater than $600 bucks, or full Business
Sydney to Perth > $2200 are definitely exorbitant.

I can't see why you, appear, to be so pro- and loyal to Qantas, that's your
choosing. Are you the same on the routes where is a real alternative. Yeah
I've got the gold card, but so what. Priority baggage, preferential seating,
bonus points are worthwhile but forget the crowed lounges. When I take my
three or four international trips a year the choice is easy. Anything but
Qantas.

Fully flexible, fully changeable fares of about $199 on SYD-MEL, I use
them all the time, available through Qbiz. Easy enough to get hold of,
and for those who can't access Qbiz, they retail fare is only about
$15 more.

And on routes where DJ does NOT compete, fares are reasonable as well
- SYD-NTL is routinely about $105 for a red e-deal (although why you
would pay that when you can get a fullY along with 10 extra status
credits for an extra $30 or so is beyond me).

Doesn't have to be QF for me, as long as it is OneWorld, or a QF FF
partner.

You may not be paying for it this time around, but to get to the status you brag
about constantly, QF must have been screwing you or your company for some time.

Nope - all fares have been discount Y fares, with 90% of them being
red e-deals.
