How do I become a ferry pilot? Can somebody give me some information on the
job of a ferry pilot? Is there a demand for that here in Australia?

Thx

Christoph

Try going to Circular Quay and asking for a job.... (sorry, couldn't resist
that one)

Seriously though, what is your experience? Do you already have an aviation
job, flying?

Do you want international or local ferrying etc etc.

Hy Rob,

I hold a German CPL/IFR Multiengine Licence. I never had an aviation Job
because I was too busy with earning money.

I am interested in international and australia wide ferry jobs. Any idea who
to talk to?

Thx

Christoph

Christoph,
An international ferry pilot is a very specialised job given our vast
distances from the most popular market -the USA. These guys usually carry
their own instruments and have years of experience. They also work out of
companies with experience in international ferry work as it requires a lot
of expertise to get the approvals for ferry modifications, registration,
customs, export, airworthiness approvals etc. Given your lack of experience
I doubt your resume would make it off the fax.

However, one of the better known Australian - Clamback & Hennessey
Bankstown Airport. There are other overseas ferry companies coming to
Australia - try emailing kb_s...@hotmail.com

I have used ferry pilots within Australia to position aircraft. It is one
of the lowest paid jobs around. Most companies use their junior staff to do
this as the risk is lower and the qualifications are not as high as for
passenger carrying work. Junior staff can practice manouvres not allowable
while carrying passengers or freight. I used to let it be known I had an
aircraft to take somewhere and I had people begging for the hours.

Some aircraft mechanics cannot fly and rely on owners or an available pilot
to bring aircraft in for service or repairs. Again the pay is lousy, the
work spasmodic and it gets in the way of a steady job. You could get stuck
out in the middle of nowhere for days waiting for the work to be finished,
all for a few hours flying.

Sue
