Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, which translates as "Royal Airline
Company". The original name was Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij voor
Nederland en Koloniën, "Royal Airline Company for the Netherlands and
Colonies", but even in 1919 was known simply as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
