"Compass founder dies
Bryan Grey, the man who founded Compass Airlines
in an attempt to break the stranglehold Australia's
two major airlines held over domestic travel, has
died in Melbourne aged 71.
He began his 35-year career as a protege to Reg Ansett,
going on to make a fortune and lose it playing David to the
Goliaths of the Australian air routes.
His most memorable effort, and most expensive failure,
was Compass Airlines, which operated in 1990 and 1991.
As its chief executive, Mr Grey masterminded an airline
devoted to undercutting the ticket prices of Ansett and the
then Australian Airlines. Compass collapsed after a little
more than a year.
A great-great-grandson of Charles Earl Grey, a former
British prime minister, Mr Grey was also founding managing
director of Air Niugini".

Well I'm surprised.
Surprised that the death of the man who tried to bring cheaper travel
to us all has gone almost without comment on this newsgroup.
RIP Bryan Grey
