Suggestions?
That's not really much of a budget for a decent set of speakers, but
there are good ones to be had if you're not looking for "absolute name
brand" products.
I've had a set of Welling speakers in my home theatre setup for just
over a year now, and swear they sound considerably better than "name brand"
speakers in excess of $2k. They're reasonably sensitive, but are also
pliable enough to take the full brunt of my 5x105W receiver when I feel the
urge to disrupt the neighbours.
Campsie Hi-Fi have the 5-speaker package going for $999 at
www.campsiehifi.com.au/speakers/welling.htm; that price won't get you a
sub-woofer, but it'll definitely give you more bass than you've ever
experienced with your existing speakers.
Have fun!
