I think he might've got them from Cash Converters

is this Bad (tm)?

I had a quick listen to them, they sounded fairly decent. Nice strong bass,
good mids and fair highs (though it was a crappy amp and CD player)

any ideas?

Not bad as entry level speakers, I had a pair of K-1030's not too bad, sold
in WA by CConvertors and At the time Archie Martins. Cheap.

considering the size and power handling, they seem alright.

I'd get VAF's, but for the price I can get the 5 Linear's (inc centre and
rears) I couldn't even get DC-7s.

actually, I think another mate has a setup including the same sort of
speakers, might go out there and have a listen.
just making sure they weren't as ill-thought of as Bose *grin*

Aren't they sold in JB Hi-Fi?

Geeze someone's propagating the urban myth of dodgy goods being sold out the
back of a van. Wasn't this the hot topic a couple of months ago? And they
weren't linear Design speakers.

They sell Linear speakers in reputable stores (Not however high end hi-fi
shops?), having said that I've seen them in Cash convertors (Theiving
bastards). I once had a pair I bought at either RetraVision or Archie Martin
Vox (can't remember) as my second pair of entry level speakers. They were
fine for what I needed, but you have to progress....

Actually the original user of the linear design trade name was Douglas HiFi
as far as I am aware. They sold speakers, amps, and equipment cabinets under
that name from the early seventies and I saw them being manufactured. The
amps were particularly noisy, the speakers were mostly cheap drivers in
large boxes. I do have one of their glass door cabinets though.

I am not certain if anyone else is using the name now, but I assume anything
sold from cash converters would be second hand and not of their making.

Trevor.

Linear Design sold thru CC are new from a dealer. Admitedly they aren't the
best things around, but ok for starters.

I think those are the ones that shifty salesmen sell out of vans.

If they are, stay away from them as they are the pits and might even damage
equipment.

I was once approached by these salesmen.

You shouldnt take them even if you were paid.

Cheers...
