The two I use are a PS3 and a Beyowiz DP-S1
http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/DP_S1_overview.asp . Now that PS3 has access to
VidZone it will stream over 10,000 music videos as well for *free*.
So depending on what you want out of a player IMHO the PS3 edges out the
competition but if you require a HDTV tuner function then the Beyonwiz.

Since I got a PS3 the media PC I used to use has been gathering dust. F'ing
awesome bit of kit and a bargain at the price even if you never play a game on
it.

The only problem I am currently having with it is streaming
hi-res wav files :-( It appears that it will not (via HDMI)
stream any wav at a higher resolution of 16 bit 48kHz :-( I
even sent Sony support an email today to try and clear this
one up.
But even it if never does what it does do is more than
adequate (OK f****king awesome). I also like the way you
can show your photos and select what ever music to play with
them as well.
To think I even resisted getting one of these because I
thought it was just a games console but then the games
graphics at 1080p and surround sound aren't too shabby
either. Plus it is also a free VoIP phone and/or video
conferencing via it's chat function.
Very impressed all round actually and too good to waste on
kids ;-)

Well that answers that question for me. No immediate need to replace my
$179.00 WD HDTV media box with a PS3.
The WD HDTV does 24bit / 48kHz WAVs. Also does HD video at 1080p / 24f.
The ROM hack also makes it networkable. :-)
