I am looking very seriously at the following

ONKYO TX-DS595
Accusound speakers
DL860 fronts
DL420 rears
DLC-130 centre

Anything obviously wrong with this setup, price is about 2500?

No comments, is that good or bad?

Also what can I use as a front projector screen (that doesn't cost a
fortune)?

How would mdf with that white coating go?

Great choice....

I recently purchased:

Onkyo 696 (still waiting on delivery)..I order the 595 and then
changed my mind.
Accusound speakers...DL690, DLC130 and DLR420s.

If you have room get the DLC-160.

How much are the speakers? And the amp? I paid $1280 for my speakers
(the whole pack!) and order the 595 at $950 before I changed it to the
696 which I paid $1470.

Go for it!

Think the Accusounds are the best value speakers on the market. I
listened to heaps and they were simply tops.

Missed your $2500 bit.

When I purchased mine...they were selling:

DL890, DLC130 and DLR420s for $1380. When you add the $950 (Onkyo 595)
it comes to $2330. BUT you are looking at the 860s which are about
$500 cheaper (at full retail)...so THAT IS NOT A GOOD PRICE!

The DLC160 should only be $200 more.

Get some speaker stands ($75) from Jaycar and away you go.

Let me know how you go.

That is the problem for me. I am stuck up in the woods and the nearest thing we get to a good
price is cane toads (Bundaberg). Does anyone do mail order worth a danm in Australia?

These can be made to work quite well. Just make sure you go for a matt
paint rather than a gloss, and that it is a pure white (not off-white,
cream, beige, bone or any other of Richie Benauds favorite colors).

As an interesting experiment to try, if you have an LCD projector, try
a light neutral grey instead of white, to try for that 'Stewart
Greyhawke" effect. You should get better blacks and more contrast, and
if you don't like it, you can always paint it white!

Regards

John

PS Use some really black velvet for the border, it makes a big
difference.

Yeah, but avsupplyco don't sell the Delta range. These are HN
exclusive and are the premier range from Accusound.

Depends on what your needs are. If you want something with a high PAF, that
looks very good with very low visual impact, then BOSE, Yamaha, Sony and a
number of others have the package for you. Ask to see behind the grill on
the speakers to see if you are being offered a mediocre tv/transister radio
style speaker, or something substantial. Then ask to listen to them with
some of your own material, yours or rented for the day, in a room similar to
a living room with a HT setup. Most stores have some sort of listening or
viewing room for this, some more than one. If the store cannot or won't
facilitate you in this, go elsewhere. Why? Because this is really a measure
of their customer service orientation.

OTH, if you want something that will sound good, with some to high visual
impact, there are lots of options. Take a look (i.e., have a listen to) at
some of the Australian made speaker packages - VAF, Krix, Richter, etc., or
some of the more reputable imports. Then, within your budget range, try some
of the Japanese brand names - Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo, up to the
likes of Rotel and try and listen to them with something that you know the
sound of.

As far as the option that you outlined, I have auditioned some of the
Accusound range in the local shops, and I was unimpressed at the quality and
the sound at the price.

But most of all, listen, listen, listen, until you find something that you
like the sound of, with which you can live visually, and that is within your
price range. Then, buy it, and stop listening to other options until such
time as you get the bug to buy again.

BTW, welcome to the club.

Funny how the reviews really like the Accusound range as well.... I
suppose each to their own. I am also very impressed with them.

And their service is the best I have experienced.

Thanks everyone who replied. I ended up buying this package, but not
from the original store! I don't believe the speakers are a HN exclusive
but then I don't know much :-)

I am not _all_ that concerned about this system as I have two rooms to
set up in my house and this will give me a taste of what I may expect. I
realy love getting my works projector and watching a movie at home in a
theatre like environment (screen size wise at least) and am realy
looking foward to getting a decent sound.

I paid $2300 for the system in the end, I don't know how good that was
but as I have said before, regional areas arn't great for getting good
prices.

My next project is te projector and it is some time off (3 to 6 months),
in the mean time I intend to borrow the work projecter as required :-)

The screen is my greated dilema right now. I am thinking of getting a
2.4 x 1.2 meter coated mdf panel and useing it as my screen. The main
problem with this is that you have to vary the height of the projector
(or screen) when changine from a 4x3 aspect ratio to the ultrawide
screen aspect ratio if you want to keep the height the same. The price
of a coated mdf panel is its attraction ($43). Right now I just project
onto a wall
