In the " While I am here catagory" I replaced the Steering U joints and shaft on the car . I had a problem with the shaft rubbing agaist my Hi po cast manifold ( I know Tom I'm a hard sell on the 88400 ) so I had to extend the steering column shaft end maybe an inch to clear. I also thought a Double D would eliminate play in 2 of 4 joints , and why not a collapsable shaft which even at 6/7 inches of movement " MIGHT " give me a chance to at least mourn my crashed Aurora.
So parts are ( prices are Close ) at Summit
1) coupler 3/4 smooth to 3/4 DD ( BRG-314900 ) $21.00
2) 1 U joint 3/4 DD to 3/4 DD ( SUM-76068 ) $ 50.00
3) 1 U joint 3/4 smooth to 1" DD ( BRG-314900 ) $78.00
4) collaspable shaft ( you cut to size ) 3/4 DD and 1" DD ( BRG-450024 ) $77.00
I did " TAG " smooth ends with welder( as suggested )along with drilling 5/16 holes for bolts at smooth ends. ( Who thought smooth shafts were a good idea for steering )
If you need a coupler for clearance you will need a short piece ( 3 " ) of DD shaft
