Hood Latch

I am looking for parts used to replace the hood latch cable.

Is this something that you can purchase as a unit, or do you have to doctor the old pull with a new cable.

Anyone... what did these handles come off of originally?

Hi Kevin, are you looking for the cable or the handle ? 

if I'm not mistaken the handle comes from a Ford Fiesta (most probably a door handle). 

For the cable, I guess you can put anything that has the right dimensions. Mine is pianocord type, but I'm not sure it is original. 

Anyway, 2 times in the last 19 years, the cable broke at the fixation to the handle. Fortunately, I was able to fix it without changing anything, but I was worried it could eventually brake at the hood level, which would make it an ordeal to open the hood. So I have now a second stainless steel cable acting as a backup solution in case of issue on the main cable. The spare cable has a simple ring at the end to pull the cable easily.

Was yours mounted under the steering near the column?. I have yet to find anything that even remotely resembles it. I will take some pictures include them later.... and yes, great idea to have a secondary!!

I have a Tr6 that has the same setup for the release. Good sense to put a secondary release on it. I have one on the Cobra as well.
