End of the Road Notice

The time has come to notify all Aurora owners that the web site auroracobra.org will soon be going dark. What began as a class project in 2005 and became a labor of love for twenty years is ending. Originally hosted for free by Doteasy of Vancluver, Canada, their DNS server annual fees have climbed to almost $300. And now with my Aurora #110 sold, it’s time for me to move on.

That said, all the web site “assets,” remain archived on my server, about 3GB. This includes:

Photos

Articles

History and Manuals

Owner contact list (Apple Numbers)

Registration and documentation images

My web development and editing was all done with Adobe Creative Suite - Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop. The Aurora Discussion Group is separate, and hosted for free by Google. It will also be going dark, so head to the Facebook page Aurora Owners.

Happy motoring

-Tom Wallerich

TOM,

Thank you for all your effort and expertise. But mostly for helping us newbie owners keep these cars on the road. The access to the owners and maintenance manuals alone has saved me countless hours in finding parts and installing them. The garage section on fixes and Improvements has greatly improved the cars and made them much safer and usable.

I hope you're keeping busy with some new projects. Might be a good time to visit some old friends back in NZ

Take Care
Peter #68

Tom,

Honor to whom honor is due! I can hardly find the words to express my gratitude for everything you have done for the Aurora community. The website and the Google group were the most important sources while I was looking for an Aurora Cobra and even more so after I found one. They were the source of knowledge about these cars and visiting the website and browsing through the countless cars and information always felt a bit like home for a petrolhead like me. The connections that you made possible with the list of owners was certainly something very special that you hardly find with any other car brand. It hurts all the more now that all of this will soon be gone. If I could wish for anything, it would be that someone would continue the site and that the Google group would continue to exist so that those who come after us can also convey the enthusiasm and passion that connects us with these cars and enable them to be preserved for a long time to come. So thank you again for making this all possible and making it available to the community for such a long time!

I wish you all the best!

Cheers and take care

Sascha

Hello Tom

I would like to run the web site auroracobra.org ...

I have access to hosting the site and everything.

Are you interested in that ? :-)

Kind regards

Hello Michael

I just spoke with Richard Bieling, owner of Aurora #81. His web development skills are limited, and his principal interest is sustaining the AuroraCobra.org web site. He wants to update the site, make it more interactive for the owners, but he does not have the skill set to do this.

I told Richard I have interest from other Aurora owners who want to assume admin duties, pay for hosting, and who have web development skills. He is certainly open to your interest.

We agreed next steps are 1) I’ll ask Doteasy if they can “park” the domain name for a fee until we can assign a new owner and admin. 2) I’ll ask if a new owner can reactivate the site in his name and assume the costs. 3) I’ll email you and Michael with their response.

So I’ll keep you informed with the response from Doteasy.

I’m happy to know you’re interested in taking over the site. Many owners have shown appreciation, disappointment on my taking it down, and eager to see it return.

I will be back home in NZ on Sunday and we can resume our talks. Please let me know what platform works for you - Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp, etc.

Best regards,

Thanks for your email. No, I’m never out of projects. so no worry there. We’re six months in WA and six months in NZ each year, so in NZ now and back to WA in April. I’m now also a Canadian citizen, so we have some new options…

I’m working with two other owners to restore and manage the site auroracobra.org. I renewed ownership of this domain name so it cannot be grabbed, and we’re making plans currently to get the site back up, or another iteration of it. All owners will be informed through the Aurora Discussion Group by email.

Incidentally, as I may have mentioned, I knew Wayne Heldt, former owner of your #68. He was a founder at E-Trade, and I helped him acquire your SB-100 California emissions plate on your firewall. Long story, but it has great value to any owner in California. Newrly impossible to get now.

Best regards

Tom Wallerich

Well, a bit of confusion caused by me. This is Guzz or Spike ( Peter ) and I have car #78 not 68. But I'm glad to hear everything's going well and you have options on locations if the need arises. I worked in Vanuatu for a year and a half back in the 90's and got down to NZ a few times. I hope I'm able to go back someday for an extended stay.
