Aurora owner Wally has submitted a good repair idea for your dodgy steering. Aurora used the MGB steering rack with 3/4" input shaft. The column shaft, also MGB and also 3/4" means the logical choice for universal joints is 3/4", but the devil is in the details...   Get over to the Aurora Garage and check out the latest "Best Fix."

OK, so I don't get paid for my web work on this site, so the site checker is on unpaid leave. Apologies for this failed link to this steering u-joint page in the Garage. Try it again and learn how to eliminate that pesky slop in your steering and why it occurs...

As a Christmas project I just fixed my dodgy steering with the latest "best fix" of Wally. I bought two Borgeson joints and the Borgeson shaft at Summit Racing. Shipment to Germany took only a few days. The fix was done approx. 6-7 hours. I didn´t have the chance to drive my Aurora outside yet because of snow in Germany but the steering feels great. Thanks Wally!
Find attached some pics.

Beste regards,
Marco

Wow- the side by side picture is so "telling". It is truly pretty disturbing to realize the original system is so flimsy. I hope you can give us the final assessment after you drive it which should inspire others to do the same project. In my opinion it's not really a difficult task.
Cheers, Wally

The Borgeson u-joints look solid, but the connection to the shaft is the concern.  The weakest point with the original Aurora steering linkage is the universal joint through-bolts and drilled shaft. The bolt holes in the shaft enlarge with use, causing considerable play in the steering. Best temporary fix is to just tack weld the shaft to the u-joint. Mine’s been fine for 30k miles.
